Teen Girl Wishlist

It can be challenging to find gifts for your teens so I asked Finley to put together her teen girl wishlist. With so many trends coming and going on social media, it’s hard to keep up with what kids are into these days. Recently, Finley started saving anything and everything she wants for her birthday and holidays on her phone. We created a shared photo album where she can put screenshots of what she wants into the album and then I can pick and choose from there. I highly recommend doing this with your older kids as it’s been so helpful to know what they’re into these days. In the meantime, here’s what’s on Finley’s wishlist.

Clothing Wishlist

Like most teens her age, Finley is a huge fan of anything by Lululemon. From tank tops to long-sleeves to sweatshirts, she loves all of their tops and sports bras. While she hasn’t added any leggings to her wishlist yet, she does have their shorts on the list. She’s a very active kid that plays multiple sports and these are quality pieces that will last her more than a single season.

Makeup Wishlist

We’ve finally hit the age where Finley is interested in makeup. She’s often on TikTok finding the latest makeup trends so a lot of these products she finds through videos. She loves to go to Sephora and test out all the products.

Skincare & Haircare Wishlist

Teenage skin can be a bummer so we’ve been trying to find what skincare products work best for her skin type and how it changes seasonally. These are the products she’s been looking to try out.

Jewelry and Accessories Wishlist

Finley has picked out several cute necklaces and bracelets from Kendra Scott recently. The hardest part with these is that the colors of the stones tend to sell out seasonally so if you find one your daughter likes, my recommendation would be to buy it when you see it.

You can find more of my top picks for teen girl wishlist items in my Amazon storefront.

My Summer Reading List

Summer reading

Hello Everyone! It’s Sarah and I’m back with my summer reading list. I was tearing through books this winter and spring and I’ve finally started keeping track of what I’m reading via Goodreads. While my reading has slowed a bit with a busy summer, I’m still trying to get through my to-be-read piles (yes, there are multiple). I read 2-3 books at a time: I have a book I read on my lunch break at work, a book I read before bed, and sometimes I’ll listen to an audiobook while traveling or doing things around the house. I’ve pulled together books from several different genres in hopes that you’ll find your next favorite read from my summer reading list.

ACOTAR Series by Sarah J. Maas
Fantasy Series

When nineteen-year-old huntress Feyre kills a wolf in the woods, a terrifying creature arrives to demand retribution. Dragged to a treacherous magical land she knows about only from legends, Feyre discovers that her captor is not truly a beast, but one of the lethal, immortal faeries who once ruled her world. At least, he’s not a beast all the time. As she adapts to her new home, her feelings for the faerie, Tamlin, transform from icy hostility into a fiery passion that burns through every lie she’s been told about the beautiful, dangerous world of the Fae. But something is not right in the faerie lands. An ancient, wicked shadow is growing, and Feyre must find a way to stop it, or doom Tamlin-and his world-forever.

I just finished the 4th book in this 5 book series. I was a little skeptical about this series but there are a LOT of people talking about it. I liked the first book in the series enough to read the second book and that’s when I got hooked. This series is technically categorized as YA but I’m not sure how. In my opinion, this series has more adult themes than the YA books of my era!

City of Girls by Elizabeth Gilbert
Romance/Historical Fiction

In 1940, nineteen-year-old Vivian Morris has just been kicked out of Vassar College, owing to her lackluster freshman-year performance. Her affluent parents send her to Manhattan to live with her Aunt Peg, who owns a flamboyant, crumbling midtown theater called the Lily Playhouse. There Vivian is introduced to an entire cosmos of unconventional and charismatic characters, from the fun-chasing showgirls to a sexy male actor, a grand-dame actress, a lady-killer writer, and no-nonsense stage manager. But when Vivian makes a personal mistake that results in professional scandal, it turns her new world upside down in ways that it will take her years to fully understand. Ultimately, though, it leads her to a new understanding of the kind of life she craves – and the kind of freedom it takes to pursue it. It will also lead to the love of her life, a love that stands out from all the rest.

This was a great audiobook selection!

Crying in H Mart by Michelle Zauner
Memoir

In this exquisite story of family, food, grief, and endurance, Michelle Zauner proves herself far more than a dazzling singer, songwriter, and guitarist. With humor and heart, she tells of growing up one of the few Asian American kids at her school in Eugene, Oregon; of struggling with her mother’s particular, high expectations of her; of a painful adolescence; of treasured months spent in her grandmother’s tiny apartment in Seoul, where she and her mother would bond, late at night, over heaping plates of food.

This was another recent audiobook for me. It’s read by the author and is a quick listen.

From Scratch: A Memoir of Love, Sicily, and Finding Home by Tembi Locke
Memoir

It was love at first sight when actress Tembi met professional chef, Saro, on a street in Florence. There was just one problem: Saro’s traditional Sicilian family did not approve of his marrying a black American woman. However, the couple, heartbroken but undeterred, forged on. They built a happy life in Los Angeles, with fulfilling careers, deep friendships, and the love of their lives: a baby girl they adopted at birth. Eventually, they reconciled with Saro’s family just as he faced a formidable cancer that would consume all their dreams.

This was a wonderful read for me but fair warning, you might find yourself hungry and crying at the same time while reading. Once you finish reading, be sure to watch the Netflix adaptation. This will have you wishing you were working your way through your summer reading list in Italy!

Love on the Brain by Ali Hazelwood
Romantic Comedy/Contemporary Romance

Like an avenging, purple-haired Jedi bringing balance to the mansplained universe, Bee Königswasser lives by a simple code: What would Marie Curie do? If NASA offered her the lead on a neuroengineering project—a literal dream come true after years scraping by on the crumbs of academia—Marie would accept without hesitation. Duh. But the mother of modern physics never had to co-lead with Levi Ward. Sure, Levi is attractive in a tall, dark, and piercing-eyes kind of way. And sure, he caught her in his powerfully corded arms like a romance novel hero when she accidentally damseled in distress on her first day in the lab. But Levi made his feelings toward Bee very clear in grad school—archenemies work best employed in their own galaxies far, far away.

Ali Hazelwood’s books typically focus on women in STEM and I love it! This book was funny, charming, and not what I expected. I read her The Love Hypothesis book as well but enjoyed Love on the Brain a bit more (but still recommend). This summer she released her latest book, Love Theoretically.

Mary Jane by Jessica Anya Blau
Coming-of-age story

In 1970s Baltimore, fourteen-year-old Mary Jane loves cooking with her mother, singing in her church choir, and enjoying her family’s subscription to the Broadway Showtunes of the Month record club. Shy, quiet, and bookish, she’s glad when she lands a summer job as a nanny for the daughter of a local doctor. A respectable job, Mary Jane’s mother says. In a respectable house. The house may look respectable on the outside, but inside it’s a literal and figurative mess: clutter on every surface, Impeachment: Now More Than Ever bumper stickers on the doors, cereal and takeout for dinner. And even more troublesome (were Mary Jane’s mother to know, which she does not): the doctor is a psychiatrist who has cleared his summer for one important job—helping a famous rock star dry out. A week after Mary Jane starts, the rock star and his movie star wife move in.

I just started this book. I think it’s going to be the perfect easy, summer read after a few heavy books recently. I’m planning on finishing it poolside this weekend. I’m hoping it’s the perfect addition to my summer reading list.

Tomorrow and Tomorrow and Tomorrow by Gabrielle Zevin
Coming-of-age story

On a bitter-cold day, in the December of his junior year at Harvard, Sam Masur exits a subway car and sees, amid the hordes of people waiting on the platform, Sadie Green. He calls her name. For a moment, she pretends she hasn’t heard him, but then, she turns, and a game begins: a legendary collaboration that will launch them to stardom. These friends, intimates since childhood, borrow money, beg favors, and, before even graduating college, they have created their first blockbuster, Ichigo. Overnight, the world is theirs. Not even twenty-five years old, Sam and Sadie are brilliant, successful, and rich, but these qualities won’t protect them from their own creative ambitions or the betrayals of their hearts.

This was the first book we read in the book club I’m in and everyone loved it. You know it’s a good book when you try to cast the actors who would play the characters in the movie version.

The Silent Patient by Alex Michaelides
Psychological Thriller

Alicia Berenson’s life is seemingly perfect. A famous painter married to an in-demand fashion photographer, she lives in a grand house with big windows overlooking a park in one of London’s most desirable areas. One evening her husband Gabriel returns home late from a fashion shoot, and Alicia shoots him five times in the face, and then never speaks another word. Alicia’s refusal to talk, or give any kind of explanation, turns a domestic tragedy into something far grander, a mystery that captures the public imagination and casts Alicia into notoriety. The price of her art skyrockets, and she, the silent patient, is hidden away from the tabloids and spotlight at the Grove, a secure forensic unit in North London. Theo Faber is a criminal psychotherapist who has waited a long time for the opportunity to work with Alicia. His determination to get her to talk and unravel the mystery of why she shot her husband takes him down a twisting path into his own motivations―a search for the truth that threatens to consume him.

An excellent audiobook if you’re like me and like to listen to books.

The Book of Lost Names by Kristin Harmel
Historical Fiction

Eva Traube Abrams, a semi-retired librarian in Florida, is shelving books one morning when her eyes lock on a photograph in a magazine lying open nearby. She freezes; it’s an image of a book she hasn’t seen in sixty-five years—a book she recognizes as The Book of Lost Names. The accompanying article discusses the looting of libraries by the Nazis across Europe during World War II—an experience Eva remembers well—and the search to reunite people with the texts taken from them so long ago. The book in the photograph, an eighteenth-century religious text thought to have been taken from France in the waning days of the war, is one of the most fascinating cases. Now housed in Berlin’s Zentral- und Landesbibliothek library, it appears to contain some sort of code, but researchers don’t know where it came from—or what the code means. Only Eva holds the answer—but will she have the strength to revisit old memories and help reunite those lost during the war?

I’m a sucker for female-driven WWII-era stories and this was no exception.

Woman on Fire by Lisa Barr
Art Thriller

After talking her way into a job with Dan Mansfield, the leading investigative reporter in Chicago, rising young journalist Jules Roth is given an unusual—and very secret—assignment. Dan needs her to locate a painting stolen by the Nazis more than 75 years earlier: legendary Expressionist artist Ernst Engel’s most famous work, Woman on Fire. World-renowned shoe designer Ellis Baum wants this portrait of a beautiful, mysterious woman for deeply personal reasons, and has enlisted Dan’s help to find it. But Jules doesn’t have much time; the famous designer is dying. Meanwhile, in Europe, provocative and powerful Margaux de Laurent also searches for the painting. Heir to her art collector family’s millions, Margaux is a cunning gallerist who gets everything she wants. The only thing standing in her way is Jules. Yet the passionate and determined Jules has unexpected resources of her own, including Adam Baum, Ellis’s grandson. A recovering addict and brilliant artist in his own right, Adam was once in Margaux’s clutches. He knows how ruthless she is, and he’ll do anything to help Jules locate the painting before Margaux gets to it first.

This book is told from several different viewpoints and timelines and pulled me in.

I love to share my book recommendations and hope that you find something you love in my summer reading list. If you’re interested in my other favorite reads, check out What’s On My Fall Reading List, My Favorite Holiday Reads, and Maggie’s Top Ten Summer Beach Reads. Happy Reading!

Rug Refresh with Revival

It was time for a refresh. We have been slowly updating our family beach cottage on Lake Michigan and most recently updated the living room rug with RevivalRevival has always been a favorite place to source rugs. They offer a mix of both vintage and fresh off the loom curated options. Their rugs are made with high quality materials and they are affordable! You may remember when I added the Hart Jute Rug from Revival in our farmhouse bedroom.  This is one of my favorite rugs and I knew Revival would be a great place to find the perfect rug for our family cottage.

When giving a space a refresh I always find that a new rug is a great place to start.  A beautiful rug creates a foundation for any space and sets the tone for the room. Our living room faces the lake and is full of vintage wicker and blue and white details that have been collected over time. This is a gathering place for our extended family and it was important that this room felt cozy and like a home away from home. Adding in a new rug was the perfect way to bring in warmth to this light and airy space.

Selecting the right rug was important to me. I wanted a rug that would ground the space and natural fiber rugs are always my go to especially for coastal settings. I love natural fiber rugs for their charm and warmth and how they just feel classic. So I selected the Revival Venus Jute rug because it felt like the perfect neutral backdrop for the space.  This is a braided jute rug with a beautiful scalloped edge detail and it adds just the right amount of texture to our living space. This rug is also really soft underfoot which is unusual for a jute rug! It’s perfect for our large extended family! Jute rugs are timeless and stylish and I know this will be a rug to love for years to come.

Our living room feels so inviting thanks to our new Venus Jute rug from Revival.  You can see some of my other favorites from Revival below and use code MARGARET for a discount on this rug and many other options!

My Nordstrom Sale Picks

It seems like it’s one sale after the next in July so it’s time that I rounded up my Nordstrom Sale picks. This year the Nordstrom Anniversary Sale runs from July 11th, 2023, and ends August 6th, 2023. Based on whether or not you are a Nordstrom cardholder and what your spending level is at Nordstrom determines the day that you can start to access the sale. What’s great about the Nordstrom sale is that it allows you to shop sale items for the upcoming season instead of waiting for an end-of-season sale. While you don’t have to have a Nordstrom credit card to shop the sale, it does mean that you’ll have to wait until the public sale begins.

You can easily shop the sale online if you don’t live near a Nordstrom store. The best part is that they have free returns. A lot of items sell out by the time the public sale opens. What’s great is that you can preview the sale now and add items to a wishlist. That way when you can shop the sale, you can go directly to your wishlist and check out with items in stock. If you have the Nordstrom app, you can get notifications when items are back in stock so don’t panic. I’ve had items on my wishlist come back in stock. Without further ado, here are my Nordstrom sale picks.

Women’s

Some of my favorite denim is featured in the sale. I love Mother Denim and both the Rambler straight-leg jeans and the Tripper ankle jean are featured in the sale. These are likely to sell out so be sure to add these to your wishlist so you can make quick purchases if they come back in stock when you can shop the sale. There are also the Moonlight pajama sets in shorts and pants that are on sale every year that so many people love and recommend. This is a top pick for one of my friends! Also featured is the Barefoot Dreams lounge shirt and pants and robe. Cozy season will be here soon enough!

Men’s

There’s several men’s wardrobe staples featured in the sale. If your guy wears polos, there’s a great striped version from Brooks Brothers and a more subtle striped polo from Peter Millar. I also love the reversible quilted pullover from Peter Millar which makes it a great two-for-one deal! The Barbour vest is great for in-between seasons and to layer up in the winter.

Shoes

I’m a bit surprised that there are only two Birkenstock sandals in the sale as they seem to be having a resurgence in recent years. There’s an ecru version of the two-strap big buckle Arizona sandal and the one-strap Madrid slide. Personally, I think the men’s shoe selection is better than the women’s in this year’s sale. There are lots of great sneakers and casual options for guys. and plenty of options for kids’ sneakers and winter boots as well.

Coats and Jackets

Coats are an investment piece and there are a few in this year’s sale that I would recommend. There’s a great quilted Barbour jacket that hits at the mid-thigh. For another lighter layer, I love the trench coat by Sam Edelman. For heavier coats, I recommend the Ralph Lauren wool-blend coat or the Reiss wool longline coat.

Home and Beauty

If you missed out on the Olaplex sale during Prime days, the shampoo and conditioner are featured in the sale in the large pump sizes. My favorite Supergoop sunscreen is also a stock-up item. This is also a great opportunity to start getting some of your holiday shopping done. The Barefoot Dreams blanket and the Voluspa and Diptyque candle sets are great gift items.

Kids

For kids, there are a few good athletic/athleisure wear options. There’s a Zella sports bra and leggings set and a court dress and shorts set. For the sports-lovers, the Nike Dri-FIT shorts and Under Armour pants will be big hits.

Amazon Prime Day

It’s that time of the year again-the annual Amazon Prime Day sale! This sale can feel overwhelming with different items being on sale at different times and days. I’ve rounded up a few of my favorites by category to help focus your Amazon Prime Day shopping. From home and technology items, to beauty and fashion, there’s something for everyone. Just remember that if you miss out on a sale, there’s a chance that it’ll come around again next year. Deals are subject to change and may sell out so keep checking back for discounts on items you’re interested in. Be sure to check out my Amazon storefront for all my favorite Amazon products that might be featured in the sale.

Home

There are so many great options for the home. The Bissell Little Green Machine is perfect for cleaning rugs and upholstery and is especially great if you have pets in the home. There are great kitchen deals from crockpots to dutch ovens to Nespresso machines. Some of my favorite silk tulip flowers are also featured-you can see them in the photo above.

Beauty

I recently started using Olaplex products for my hair and am loving the results. The Amazon Prime Day sale features their conditioner, bonding smoother, and bonding oil. I’m planning on stocking up so that I’m never without it when we travel. The Revlon styler is great for that blowout look without the salon expense. It’s such an easy way to look pulled together. The Laneige lip sleeping mask is another top pick and I like to have one in my bag, car, on my nightstand…I truly love this product.

Fashion

I don’t need a whole lot of new fashion items but there are a few cute bags I’ve got my eye on. I love the structured shape of the top handle bag-very chic. And you can never go wrong with a good raffia bag. It’s perfect for the beach, farmer’s markets, and running errands. It goes with any outfit! I already own and love the H-strap sandals in raffia but they have so many colorways to choose from.

Technology

It’s the perfect time to shop the Amazon Prime Day sales for technology. There are great deals on Apple AirPods and Beats wireless headphones. the Samsung Frame tv is another great choice if you’re looking to hide or blend your tv as you can feature art on the screen when not in use. My friend used the portable charger at the Taylor Swift concert recently and said it was the perfect size to fit in her purse and keep her phone charged the whole night. Adding it to my cart!

While you’re shopping,  be sure to check out Amazon’s furniture selections. I recently shared my favorite Amazon furniture finds in a blog post. From bar and counter stools to coffee and end tables; there are so many great options at decent price points. I find that the more detail you can put in the search bar on Amazon, the more successful you’ll be. If you aren’t sure what you’re looking for, try going to the Amazon Home section and shopping by category.

If you want even more of my favorites, you can shop directly through my Amazon storefront. I have so many categories on my storefront that you can easily shop directly from. You can also visit my Shop page and select Amazon Favorites where you can see them all in one place. You can also access them directly here.

Monthly Amazon Favorites

For this monthly Amazon favorites roundup, I thought it would be fun to focus on a single category. This month I’m focusing on my favorite furniture finds. From dressers to desks to patio sets, there are so many great options to choose from. I find that the more detail you can put in the search bar on Amazon, the more successful you’ll be. If you aren’t sure what you’re looking for, try going to the Amazon Home section and shopping by category. I also love that you can shop by trend if you can’t quite pinpoint what style you’re after. I hope you find some of your Amazon favorites from this post!

For those that love the look of Serena & Lily dining chairs but are looking for a different price point, Amazon has several options for less. The chair set also reminds me of the cafe chairs you see in all of those lovely cafes in Paris. Add a cute round table and bring that Parisian charm to your own home! The bistro set is also perfect for the porch or garden.

Aside from chairs, I am loving the coffee tables and end tables on the site.  From wicker to rattan, there’s a bit of all my favorite details in these items. Both of the coffee tables have unique designs on their end caps that can fit many styles. The rattan detailing on the buffet is lovely. I would use the buffet to create a vignette with a vase of flowers and a piece of art. You could also put two of them together to create a media console! The two-tier end table could be used indoors or on the patio. The cute little ottoman reminds me of the one I have in our bathroom!

For the bedrooms and office spaces, they have great basics from dressers to desks. How fun is the raspberry pink desk! I have the white one in my home and it’s the perfect size for what I need. Plenty of room to spread out with my samples and design boards. The daybed would be perfect for a guest room or separate office space. If your kids have a dedicated playroom space, it could work as a nice area to lounge and hang with friends. I think the nightstand would be a perfect fit for a dorm room.

You can shop more of my favorites at my Amazon storefront or on my Shop page. If you missed my previous roundups, you can find my April post here and May’s roundup here. I also have a post on what to buy with Amazon gift cards.

Beautiful Lamps to Light Up Your Home

image0.jpeg

Disclosure: This post may contain affiliate links that I may earn a small commission from, at no additional cost to you. I only recommend products I would or have used myself.

Hello, Friends! One of my favorite ways to enhance my living space is by adding beautiful lamps. Setting the mood in each room in your home can easily be done by finding the right lamps to fit each space and they can really help light up a room in more ways than one! Here are some of my favorite beautiful lamps to add to your home!

Wicker

I love a pretty lamp with a wicker shade. It adds such a natural, down-to-earth essence to a room. This Morris Table Lamp has a bulbous white base and would be a great addition to your living room. Or this tall accent lamp made from bamboo will add an extra charm to your space. The Wilmington Table Lamp not only has a beautiful woven wicker base, but its shade has a pretty isla block print in blue that is sure to add some character to whatever room it’s in.

If you love to add beautiful bouquets of flowers to a room, this Floret Table Lamp has a sculpture of flowers decorating its base and would add such lovely color to a bedroom, office, or living room. Or this Flynn Petite Desk Lamp would be a perfect addition to a workspace or bedside table.

Textured Bases

You can have so much fun using lamps as accents in your home just by finding one with a fun, funky, or chic textured base. The base on this Sedona Table Lamp reminds me of the texture of a seashell and adds a bit of a coastal vibe. This Aerin Beaumont Table Lamp or this Dauphine Table Lamp have metal bases that are perfect to add a taste of class and elegance to a space.

Lamps in Blues

This sweet Brookings Lamp has the prettiest blue shade that is perfect for a console or by your bedside. Or add color to a room by using a lamp that has a lovely basic blue base, like this Suzanne Kasler Table Lamp which has a triple gourd shaped base in a calming french blue color. This one reminds me of ripples in a pool while this ceramic lamp is the best neutral blue. If you’re looking for a pattern, this ceramic lamp would be a stunning feature piece.

Choosing the right lighting might not seem that important at first, but using lamps to accent each room in your home is the perfect way to help create the space of your dreams! You can find more lamps in my Shop page.

Favorite Red White and Blue

Disclosure: This post may contain affiliate links that I may earn a small commission from, at no additional cost to you. I only recommend products I would or have used myself.

Favorite blue dress

With June in full swing, the Fourth of July holiday is quickly approaching! I’ve gathered up all of my favorite red white and blue items to get into the spirit. It seems like once the holiday has come and gone, summer is halfway over and I get a little sad. The great thing about these items is that they can be worn and used throughout the summer. There’s no need to keep it hidden away until the holiday. So break out the sparklers and celebrate with your favorite red white and blue!

Reds

There’s something about wearing red that makes me feel like I can take on anything. I love this sleeveless crepe dress for an easy, breezy look. For dressier occassions, this eyelet dress screams take me to Europe! It also comes in blue and white and all three are so beautiful. If you’re feeling nostalgic for the 90s, this square neck mini dress will have you swooning. I love the back of this tank top and it would be so chic with a pair of white jeans or trousers. For beach days and nights, this Omika dress is so bright and vibrant.  If you’re wanting to ease into wearing a bold red, dip your toes into these espadrilles. For pool days, this red and white stripe beach towel makes me think I’m back in Palm Beach. At home, I like to bring in subtle pops of red with items like this striped Perennials pillow cover.

Whites

Nothing makes those reds and blues pop more than a crisp white. This short-sleeve cashmere henley sweater would be perfect for any office environment and this linen shift dress is great if your dress code is more business than casual. I love the pockets and button details! These linen shorts are a great choice for hot days when you still want to feel pulled together. Dress them up with a button-down or dress them down with a cute tank and sandals. Crochet is having its moment this summer and this dress could be a great cover-up option and this crochet tote would be great for the market or a day at the beach. For full classic Americana, you can’t go wrong with this sweater. Perfect for those cool summer evenings. This white pillow cover is a staple in my home. I also have it in the lighter blue color. It’s so easy to mix and match with other pillows.

Favorite blues

Blues

If you love stripes as much as I do, this long-sleeve tee has all three colors with a subtle red while this one has darker reds and blues. It also comes in blue and white stripe. This blue and white blouse is perfect for any occassion and I love the bold stripes of this dress. If you’re in the mood for a bold print, I suggest this blue and white floral dress. I love everything about it! For a more classic silhouette, you can’t go wrong with a navy shirtdress. Simple and chic. If you prefer more subtle blues, this high neck sheath dress is more of a blue-purple color and is another 90s vibe option. This linen slip dress is a beautiful french blue and this Oxford blue shirt dress has the loveliest details at the waist and collar.

I can’t possibly fit all of my red, white, and blue favorites into one blog post-especially all my favorite blues! You can find more of my favorites on my LTK page. From clothing to home design, you can find all of my favorites there. For blue and white home inpiration, you can read about a breakfast nook I designed a few years ago and some of my favorite blue and white wallpaper.

How to Mix and Match Pillows

How to Mix and Match Pillows -Margaret of York.jpg

Disclosure: This post may contain affiliate links that I may earn a small commission from, at no additional cost to you. I only recommend products I would or have used myself.

Refreshing your throw pillows is an easy way to update a room that’s feeling a little stale. Using different patterns, colors, and textures to update your decor is such a great way to have fun with your space. To help guide your pillow play, I’ll share the three main rules I follow to mix and match pillows in my home.

1) Pick a Color Palette

When choosing your color palette, pick colors that are already present in the space you’re working with. This will help you tie the room together.

Make sure to have one or two primary colors to use as accents (lately, I’ve been choosing lots of greens and blues) as well as one or two secondary colors to use as your base such as white or natural browns, like beige and tan.

2) Mix and Match Patterns, Colors, and Textures

Have fun playing with patterns like florals, stripes, gingham, and dots. Mix your patterned pillows with solid-colored pillows to help them stand out more, or get funky by matching patterns with other patterns.

And don’t hesitate to play with textures, too. Include natural textures like raffia and knit wools or pillows with pom poms, tassels, beads, and fringe for added fun and dimension.

3) Use Different Sizes

You can’t go wrong with including all kinds of different pillow sizes in the mix. Mix and match big throw pillows with smaller ones for a layered, cozy feel. It’s always a good idea to start with your larger pillows first, then work your way down to see what still needs to be added.

Don’t forget that excess pillows are mostly for decoration. So add as many as you think fit the space you’re trying to fill, and make sure to have a place to put the extras when you have company over and need to make some room!

Have fun when creating and playing with your pillows! They’re meant to accent and enhance your space, and there’s no right or wrong way to do that. And, check out my other posts if you are needing to update some of your lighting or add a few mirrors to help enhance your home. You can also find some of my favorites on my Amazon storefront.

My Favorite Beach Essentials

beach essential chairs and umbrellas

Happy unofficial summer! The sunny season is officially here and there’s no better way to spend it than soaking up the sun’s rays on a beautiful beach somewhere. So make sure to prep for that much-needed vacation by gathering all of your beach items. It can be overwhelming to remember everything you need so I’ve rounded up all of my favorite beach essentials.

The first beach essential I get out is the all-important beach chair. I love having so many beautiful options when shopping for the perfect folding beach chair. One of my favorites is this cabana chair bundle. Not only does it come with its own pillow, but you can choose from over 100 different patterned fabrics when designing your chair and pillow pair. Or you can grab this teak beach chair in a classic white or pretty gingham coastal blue. I also love this striped chair that would be perfect for the beach or for using at any outdoor event.

Don’t forget to grab an umbrella for those moments when you need a break from the sun! This is definitely one of my favorite beach essentials. You can pair this tide stripe umbrella or this white umbrella with their matching teak beach chairs. I also love this scalloped umbrella with contrasting piping. Or a striped navy blue or a bold navy blue umbrella would be a good addition to your beach trip.

And you will definitely need a really good beach towel. Pack these blue cabana striped beach towels in your beach bag. These Turkish beach towels come in a variety of different colors and are quick-drying. Last year I used these monogramed Turkish towels on my girls trip to Palm Beach. I’m also partial to this vintage stripe towel and this Riveria scalloped towel. Bring a quilted beach house blanket along so you have a place to comfortably relax on the sand. And for those moments when you need a refreshment or two, use this pinstripe cooler or this insulated wine tote to keep your drinks cold and a reusable snack bag to store your smaller food items.

A good beach bag can make or break a successful beach day and is always top of my list of things to pack for my beach must-haves. I love this waterproof tote for its size and how easy it is to wipe clean. This straw tote with striped handles is so cute and I love the colors of this oversized tote. Then I use these clear travel pouches to keep my smaller items all corraled together. They can easily go from your purse to your beach bag. To protect my skin, I use Supergoop’s Unseen Sunscreen and a face covering like this sunhat. Weezie just debuted their tote that perfectly fits their straw hat and I’m excited to test it out this year.

I’ve received a few new swimwear items to try out this summer. There’s this adorable two-piece skirt swim set and this classic wrap one-piece that I plan on pairing with this beautiful beach sarong. You can find more of my favorite beach essentials over on my Shop page.

I’m so happy it’s finally summer and I can’t wait to enjoy some of my own summer days relaxing on the beach with my family. The last beach must-have I’ll be making sure to bring with me is a good book to enjoy, so don’t forget yours! Monthly Amazon Finds

We’re back this month with my monthly Amazon finds. It’s so easy to miss great stuff with the online retailer and it can feel overwhelming when you’re shopping. This month I have a few items to prepare us for the season of outdoor entertaining and to stock our bar cart. I’m longing for the days when we spend our time outdoors hosting family and friends. I needed skincare and beauty products so I stocked up on a few favorites as well as new-to-me items. I tried out a new workout tank that was my favorite Amazon find!

Amazon Finds For the Home

I have been looking for new glassware to use when we’re dining outside. These shatter-resistant wine glasses are just what I was looking for. They have multiple color options available but I love these sage green ones. The linen napkins are the perfect pop of color to add to our bar cart for cocktail hour. We were in need of new beach towels and the striped ones are so cute! And how lovely is the rattan entry bench? I could see it in so many places in our summer cottage in Michigan.

The Living Libations cleansing oil has been saving my skin lately and I’m having my teens start using it as well. When I need a bit of a glow, I love to use the Ilia serum highlighter. On makeup-free days I’ll use this all over like a tinted moisturizer. You can also use it on top or under your makeup to highlight certain areas. If you haven’t tried the Kur nail concealer yet, it’s a must! It’s quick-drying and adds just a touch of color to that conceals any nail imperfections. I love the pink color and my friend has the milky white version that she is a huge fan of.

Women’s  Style

I love the colorful pink dress for summer I can’t say enough good things about this tank top! It’s a dupe for the popular Lululemon tank and I have bought it in several colors. I sized up to a medium. It pairs perfectly with the high-waisted tennis skirt. I love the pleated hem at the back! For running errands, I’ve been reaching for the woven tote lately and have had my eye on this pink crochet one to switch things up this summer. They would both be great for farmer’s markets, too!
