The Cove Hollow Collection: A NAVYBLEU x Margaret of York Collaboration

The Cove Hollow Collection

I am beyond excited to share The Cove Hollow Collection, a collaboration between NAVYBLEU and Margaret of York. This timeless collection was inspired by slow days by the coast in dreamy shades of blue and white. It is perfect for casual elegance after a long day at the beach. We shot the collection with photographer Guillaume Le Chat in and around Cove Hollow House in Watercolor, Florida, which inspired the pieces. Danika Herrick was the textile designer and we selected the patterned prints from her collection of beautiful prints. Each piece for the collection was named and inspired by family and the area. The pattern and color names were inspired by the street names in Watercolor: Cobalt, Wiregrass, Blue Stem, and Inkberry.

Erin Hornyak, the owner of NAVYBLEU, and I have been Instagram friends for several years. We both share a love for blue and white, and we finally met in person last winter in Charleston. It was surprising to discover how many similarities we shared, both as moms of four and in our shared appreciation for classic, timeless style. This connection sparked an exciting collaboration, where we began scheming a collection that reignites our love for blue and white. We envisioned pieces that are easy and effortless that you’ll reach for time and again.

We spent two days at Cove Hollow House, and Patricia Olson of Piqued PR joined us. It was freezing that week, but we had a wonderful time shopping, dining, and, of course, shooting the collection. We drove the golf cart to dinners, with blankets, of course, and shared lots of laughs over wine.

How To Style The Cove Hollow Collection by NAVYBLEU x Margaret of York

As we approach Spring and Summer, we tend to be drawn to easy-to-wear pieces that carry us through the seasons. I appreciate versatile items that can be dressed up or down, and this was a key consideration in creating our collection. A sundress is undoubtedly one of the easiest and most elegant ways to stay stylish while combating the heat. This seven-piece collection ranges in price from $148-$188. Each piece is true to size and together makes a beautiful travel capsule. We had a great time creating this collection, and today, I want to share some tips on how to style each item. These pieces are sure to become staple favorites in your summer wardrobe.

The Maggie Dress

I love an easy linen sundress, and this piece is so classic and effortless. It’s perfect for slipping on after a long day at the beach or when running errands. The sundress comes in three color options: white, cobalt, and Inkberry. I must say, the cobalt color is stunning in person and looks great on everyone! After spending a day in the sun, I find this dress to be ideal for going out to dinner. I like to pair it with gold jewelry, pull my hair back in a bun, and drape a sweater over my shoulders. When paired with sandals, it creates an effortlessly chic look that’s easy to put together. For reference, I am wearing a size small, which features a relaxed fit.

The Alice Skirt

I love a tiered midi skirt. It is such a great length, and I especially like one with a fun print! The Alice skirt comes in two blue and white prints: Inkberry & Wiregrass. These skirts pair well with a fitted tank, a cropped or fitted tee, or a sweater. Pairing the skirt with a T-shirt requires minimal effort, yet it creates a casual yet chic look. I also love to pair with a long-sleeved button-down tied in the front with the sleeves cuffed. There are so many ways to style these skirts, and I cannot wait to see how you wear them! They run true to size, and I am wearing a size small for reference.

The Mimi Dress

There’s nothing quite like a classic shirt dress, especially one that features a fun twist with a belt. I love how a shirt dress is a straightforward, one-and-done outfit. Just throw on a pair of sandals, and you’re ready to go! It’s a timeless piece that always works. This dress also works beautifully as a cover-up without the belt. It’s perfect to wear over a swimsuit or to throw on after the beach for a casual look. The Mimi Dress is available in Cobalt and Blue Stem colors and runs true to size. For reference, I am wearing a size small.

Console Table Roundup

Console Table Roundup

I loved pulling together this console table roundup. Console tables are one of my favorite items to use around the house. They are so versatile and come in a variety of shapes and sizes to suit your needs. I love using them in entryways or behind sofas or in a smaller nook to be used as storage. They are also perfect to use as media stands and lately, I’m seeing a lot of coastal-themed ones with wicker and rattan. They are the perfect addition to any area. Below you can find my console table roundup selections that hopefully suit your needs. I love to create vignettes around mine: a mirror or artwork, a large vase with flowers, and a pretty tray to corral any loose items.

Console Table Roundup

Open Console Tables

These tend to have a slimmer profile and can either fit behind a sofa or a narrow hallway or entry space. Some of them are half-moon shaped so you get that soft curve but fit flush against the wall.

Open Console Tables

Closed Console Tables

Closed console tables are great for when you need storage. Oftentimes, these are used as TV and media cabinets, but they can also be used in dining rooms as a sideboard. They’re great for keeping your extra china, serving ware, and glassware that you don’t need every day but have for special occasions. Some of the shorter ones could also be used as nightstands or end tables. A perfect spot to tuck things away.

How to Style a Console Table

Styling a console table is a great way to add personality and style to your home decor. Console tables are functional and serve as a great service to display some of your favorite decor pieces. These are my go-to tips for styling a console table.

Start with a theme

Before you start styling your console table, it’s important to choose a theme or color scheme that will guide your styling decisions. This will help you create a stylish, functional, and cohesive look.

Add a mirror or art print

Adding a mirror or piece of art to your console table is a great way to create a focal point and make the space feel larger. Mirrors reflect light, which can help brighten up your space. As this console feature is for our entertainment center, I used an art screen saver to pull in the coastal theme.

Layer your decor

One of the most important things to remember when styling a console table is to create depth and dimension. Layering your decor is a great way to achieve this. Start with a few large pieces, such as a vase or lamp, and then add smaller items in front or around them. I used coffee table books, a tray, and vases to layer our entertainment console.

Play with height

Play with height to add interest and dimension to your console table. Use items of varying heights, such as tall vases or candlesticks, to create visual interest. Since this is a larger piece of furniture, I anchored the look with tall, matching table lamps.

Add greenery

Adding plants or fresh flowers to your console table is a great way to bring life and color into your space. Whether you choose a large potted plant or a small vase of fresh flowers, greenery is a sure way to make your console table look amazing.

Keep it functional

While it is important to create a stylish display, it is also important to keep your console table functional. Use the space to store items that you use frequently, such as keys or mail for entry console tables. Our entertainment console has a large amount of storage, which was much needed, and it has become the perfect spot for puzzles and toys.

In Conclusion

By following these tips and tricks, you can create a beautiful and functional console table that will feel functional and reflect your style. Remember to have fun and experiment with different styling options until you find the perfect look for your space.

Bar carts are also great options for console tables, and I have many posts about how to use and style them. You can check them out below.

Simple Ways to Refresh Your Home for Spring

Simple Ways to Refresh Your Home for Spring

Spring is on its way, and it is one of my favorite seasons! It is a time of renewal, with warmer temperatures, longer days, and more opportunities to spend time outside. There’s nothing quite like the feeling of fresh sheets, open windows, blooming flowers, and the sweet fragrance of lilac in the air on a spring day. Getting your home ready for a new season can be daunting, but it shouldn’t be.  Today, I wanted to share some simple ways to refresh your home for spring.

Simple Ways to Refresh Your Home for Spring

It’s the Perfect Time to Update Your Linens

Simple Ways to Refresh Your Home for Spring

There is nothing like a new crisp set of sheets. Refreshing your sheets is a simple luxury that can transform your sleeping experience. The feeling of sliding into bed with freshly laundered sheets is pure bliss. I have two favorite sets of sheets. I long-time fan of the Lands End Non-Iron Supima Cotton sheets and have suggested these to my clients over the years.  They are often on sale too!  I recently got a set of these heavenly bamboo sheets. New linens make your bedroom feel cozy and inviting, also making it harder to get out of bed. It is also a good time to remove heavy layers and add more breathable materials like cotton blankets. If you are not ready to invest in new linens, I suggest laundering all linens and bedding, including your mattress cover, pillow protectors, and bed skirt. While everything is in the wash, I like to take the opportunity to vacuum and rotate our mattress to help preserve its life. These simple steps will make your bedroom feel fresh and ready for the season.

This is also an excellent time for a bath towel update.  I have always been a big fan of these piped-edge bath towels.  You can personalize them to match your bathroom, giving the space a little extra detail! I love to wash all of my linens with this favorite detergent. It smells amazing.

Update Your Throw Pillows

Spring Throw Pillows

Updating your throw pillows is a simple yet impactful way to give your living space a new look. Changing the throw pillows or pillow covers in your space can introduce brightly colored patterns or textures that rejuvenate your living room’s overall look. You can use varying sizes, shapes, colors, and patterns. This is one of the easiest ways to change your decor seasonally or add a pop of color, keeping your home current and inviting. If you are changing the pillow covers, it’s a good time to check your inserts and see if they need replacement. Coordinating with a decorative throw blanket can also enhance the look. Updating these decor items makes a significant impact.

Be Thoughtful with Details

Simple Ways to Refresh Your Home for Spring

One simple way to refresh your home for spring is by adding small details, like fresh flowers, to the coffee table to enhance your mood and brighten your space. This is a great way to bring the outdoors in! After a long winter, I also like to purchase new candles. I love the scent of lilac and the nostalgia it brings. This lilac candle is one of my favorites to burn in early spring in my kitchen. It holds me off until I can clip those beautiful purple flowers with dark green stems myself. I love to open the windows and let the sunshine in as I prepare dinner while enjoying a good playlist. I also love refreshing my kitchen towels, hand soaps, and other small home accessories at this time as well. The most uncomplicated and often overlooked updates can significantly impact the overall feel of a home. Adding these new touches can create a warm and inviting atmosphere.

Reset Your Most Used Spaces

laundry area

We often become accustomed to our most frequently used spaces at home being disorganized. It’s always a good idea to declutter and organize your space seasonally to prevent a more significant edit in the future. I like to start with a deep clean and remove broken or unnecessary items. I think it is great to donate the things you no longer need or use. Once you’ve cleared out the unnecessary items, you can reorganize the remaining ones with the help of baskets and bins. This will create more space and make it easier for you to find the things you need quickly. You can also add labels to the bins or baskets to keep things organized.

I added these floating shelves above the washer and dryer to help manage my vases and baskets in our laundry room. I love displaying them when they are not in use. They not only keep everything organized but also add a nice decorative touch to the space. I chose sleek, modern shelves with cane detail that complement the room’s colors. It feels great to have everything neatly arranged, and I can easily access the items I need. Plus, having some greenery on the shelves with a few small plants really brightens up the laundry room!

Tidy Up Your Outdoor Spaces

outdoor space spring decor

Being outdoors is one of my favorite parts of the spring/summer season. I love dining or just sitting outside when the weather permits. We always take a weekend to clean up our outdoor spaces so we can enjoy them. It’s impressive how quickly the patio can clean up with a leaf blower and good weeding. Do a patio refresh while you’re at it. We enjoy spending time outdoors when the weather is nice and want our outdoor spaces to feel comfortable and inviting. We love this dining table on our patio at Cove Hollow House. Whenever we want to dine outdoors, we put a pretty tablecloth on it and always bring out these lamps for a little evening glow. This makes dining in so much more special. The fresh air, good food, and laughter make these moments unforgettable. Outdoor living truly elevates the beauty of spring and summer for us, and we cherish every opportunity to enjoy our little slice of nature at Cove Hollow House. Whether it’s a quiet morning coffee or a lively evening dinner, our outdoor space brings us so much joy. You can find more sources from our Cove Hollow House in Watercolor, FL. here.

When to Decorate Your Home for Spring

I typically feel the urge to decorate for spring in late February or early March. Of course, the timing depends on your climate and personal schedule. This is an excellent time for us before the kids get busy with their sports schedules. I like to start with a deep clean before decorating or refreshing. It feels good to start each new season with a deep clean and a blank slate. You can gradually introduce changes, such as fresh flowers or spring-scented candles, to add spring touches to your home.

That’s it! Those are my simple tips for refreshing your home for spring. If you’re looking for more home organization and ideas for a refresh, be sure to read these posts:

Spring Cleaning Checklist Ideas For The Ultimate Spring Clean

Spring Cleaning Checklist Ideas

Ahh, spring cleaning. It’s one of those things that we all know we need to do, but it can feel like a lot. You know, the dusting, the organizing, the endless lists of things that pile up but don’t seem to get done. You’re excited to freshen everything up but then the overwhelm just hits you.

Here’s the thing, spring cleaning doesn’t have to be this massive chore that looms over you! The trick is to break it down into manageable cleaning tasks. Enter the Spring Cleaning Checklist. It keeps you focused, keeps you moving, and honestly, makes the whole process feel way less daunting. Plus, there’s something oddly satisfying about checking off those tasks as you go.

Today, I’m sharing a spring cleaning checklist that’s simple but effective!

Spring Cleaning Checklist Ideas For The Ultimate Spring Clean

Spring cleaning checklists are a personal game plan for turning your space into a fresh, organized place. And, what better time than as the weather begins to warm up? It’s like hitting that big red “reset” button on your home, but with a little more intention than usual.

What you’ll find below are some reasons why spring cleaning is important, cleaning tips, and a helpful checklist to get things started. There are so many quick and easy ways to refresh your home for spring, without the overwhelm that you usually feel. Soon, every nook and cranny in your home will feel brand new again!

Why Spring Cleaning Is Important

A Cleaner, Healthier Home

When spring cleaning, it’s easy to focus on just making things look nice. But a big benefit of deep cleaning is creating a healthier environment. Over time, dust, dirt, pet dander, and allergens build up in our homes, and spring cleaning is the ideal chance to tackle all of that!

Start by dusting hard-to-reach spots like ceiling fans, light fixtures (yes, even around the light bulb), and behind furniture. Make sure you also clean your air vents and replace filters to improve indoor air quality. Wash or vacuum any rugs, cushions, and upholstery to get rid of any trapped allergens.

Mental Clarity And Reduced Stress

It’s easy for clutter and mess to start weighing on your mind. When your space is disorganized, it can leave you feeling anxious or overwhelmed. A clean and orderly home, on the other hand, can help you think clearly and feel less stressed.

Take the time to declutter each room. It’s okay to start small with one shelf at a time. Organize your home by putting things in their proper places. If something doesn’t spark joy or serve a purpose, LET IT GO!

Boosted Productivity

A clean, organized space isn’t just a visual upgrade. It can actually help you be more productive every day and grab life by the horns!

A tidy environment means fewer distractions and more room to focus on your tasks. Create designated spaces in your home for everything. This includes cleaning supplies, bills, mail, and work materials. Clear your workspace of clutter and only keep the essentials nearby. By creating a flow in your home, it’s easy to be more efficient.

Improved Sleep Quality

A cluttered environment can interfere with your sleep. If you’ve ever tried to sleep in a room that’s cramped or chaotic, you know what I mean. Spring cleaning can help set the stage for better rest by creating a calm, organized environment where you can unwind.

To begin, wash your bedding. Think fresh sheets, new pillowcases, and a new duvet to spruce things up. Clear out any items you don’t need, especially things that distract you. This is also the perfect time to donate old clothes.! A clean, calming bedroom is essential for good sleep!

Sense of Accomplishment

Spring cleaning can be a daunting task, I get it. But once you start crossing things off your list, you’ll feel a sense of achievement. It’s satisfying to take on a big project, especially one that’s so rewarding. The best part? You get to enjoy the results every day!

Set realistic goals by breaking down your cleaning tasks into manageable chunks. Tackle one task or room per day to avoid burnout. Personally, I love to make it feel like a fun challenge. I get my speaker and put on my favorite podcast or listen to some music keep things light and enjoyable.

I also like to set the goal so I can enjoy some downtime afterwards. Whether it’s relaxing with a cup of coffee, watching my favorite show, or doing something that feels like a treat. The act of completing something, no matter how big or small, feels great, and the reward motivates me to get it done!

Preparedness For The Season Ahead

Spring cleaning also has a practical side–it helps you prepare for the upcoming season. With warmer weather on the way, you’ll likely be spending more time outdoors and inviting friends and family over. A clean home makes it way easier to enjoy these activities without the hassle of worrying about clutter or mess.

Focus on areas that will be used more as the weather warms up, like patios, gardens, or porches. Open up the windows, let the sunshine in, and start deep cleaning. By cleaning in preparation for the new season, you’re ready to host gatherings that people will love!

How To Do Spring Cleaning Properly

bar cart organization

Declutter First

Clear out any unnecessary items. Donate or toss anything you don’t find helpful or don’t need anymore. Don’t forget those hidden clutter drawers that always seem to accumulate “stuff.” Ask yourself, “Do I need this?” If not, LET IT GO!

Dust And Sweep Thoroughly

Dust from top to bottom with a microfiber cloth, and sweep or vacuum all the floors, including corners and under furniture. This step removes allergens sitting around and gives your home a fresh, clean feel.

Wash And Deep Clean Surfaces

Use a good multi-surface cleaner for counters and tables, and disinfect any bathroom surfaces. Scrub the tiles, grout, and all the cracks you never pay attention to usually. Don’t forget to clean your baseboards and window sills.

Tackle The Floors

Vacuum or sweep first, then clean with the right floor cleaner for your type of floor. Use wood cleaner for hardwood, steam clean your carpets, and mop tiles.

Refresh Your Fabrics

Wash your bedding, clean your curtains, and vacuum all of your upholstered furniture. Refreshing fabrics makes your home feel clean and comfortable. This also keeps your fabrics in good condition.

Clean The Appliances

Clean out expired food from the fridge and wipe it out, scrub the oven, start a cleaning cycle on your washing machine, and wipe down small appliances. Regular appliance cleaning improves function and extends lifespan. Your kitchen essentials deserve a spa day too!

Organize And Revamp Storage Spaces

Reorganize kitchen cabinets, closets, and storage spaces using bins, dividers, and labels to keep things as tidy as possible. An organized home is easier to maintain.

Finishing Touches And Air Freshener

Add a fresh scent to your home with candles or a reed diffuser. Open windows for natural air and place some fresh flowers around the home. These charming touches complete your spring cleaning.

Checklist For Spring Cleaning

This free printable is here to make your spring cleaning this year easier than ever before!

Remember, you don’t have to do it all in one go. You can pace yourself. Tackle one room of the house each weekend, or spread it over a couple of days, going room by room. Either way, you got this!

Spring Cleaning Checklist Ideas
Make spring cleaning a ‘breeze’ with this checklist!

With these simple steps, you’ll have your home feeling fresh, organized, and sparkling clean in no time. Spring cleaning doesn’t have to be overwhelming. Take it one step at a time, and enjoy the process of transforming your space.

Simple Ways to Add Curb Appeal to your Home

Simple Ways to Add Curb Appeal to your Home

Adding curb appeal to your home is a great way to make a positive first impression and increase the overall value of your property. Whether you’re looking to sell your home or simply want to enhance its appearance, there are many simple ways to do so. Today, I am sharing some of my favorite ways to add curb appeal to your home exterior.

Simple Ways to Add Curb Appeal to your Home

Refresh your doormat

I love sweeping outside our front door and making sure our entry is welcoming and clean for our guests.  It is also believed to be good luck in feng shui as it is believed that keeping your front door entry clean will bring luck and opportunities. I love to sweep it off and add a doormat for some charm! Here are a few recent favorites.

Update your mailbox

Updating your address numbers and mailbox can add a touch of personality and style to your home’s exterior. Choose easy-to-read numbers and consider a mailbox that complements the overall style of your home.

Paint your front door

Your front door is the focal point of your home’s exterior, so giving it a facelift can have a significant impact on the overall look of your home. Consider giving your front door a fresh coat of paint in a bold color, adding a decorative wreath, or installing new hardware or a beautiful door knocker for a quick and easy update.

Exterior Lights

Nothing says “welcome home” in the evenings than pulling up in the drive and seeing our home all aglow with our exterior lights. It provides that coziness we all yearn for in our homes. You could also install pathway lights and uplighting for trees. From wall sconces on the front porch to string lights stretched over our back patio area, adding a variety of exterior lighting you love is something you won’t regret.

Update your planters

One of my favorite ways to add curb appeal to our home is by updating our planters. It’s such an easy way to change out the look of your home by planting seasonal flowers and plants. I use a variety of smaller terracotta and blue and white chinoiserie planters combined with larger classic Chippendale planters. This adds variety in both shape and size for an overall cohesive look.

For more outdoor inspiration, I have several blog posts about updating our porch seasonally and our design plan for updating our backyard.

Mom Essentials

Today, I am sharing some things I can’t live without as a mom of four. Being a mom is one of the most rewarding experiences, and it can also be quite challenging. I’ve come to rely on a few must-haves that have made my life so much easier. These mom essentials will make your daily routine smoother and keep you organized.

Home

I vacuum the kitchen every night with my cordless Dyson vacuum. It’s lightweight and I am not sure how I ever lived without it! It’s so much easier than dragging out a heavier, corded vacuum and it’s easy for the kids to use as well, which is always a bonus!

To get ahead of the week, I prep fruit and other easy-to-grab items in to-go containers. Planning and preparing meals in advance can be a lifesaver for busy moms. I also rely on Instacart grocery delivery for those busy weeks. It saves me so much time not having to go into town to get groceries and household items. Plus, I love being able to add to my cart throughout the week when I realize we’re out of something before placing my order. Sign up using code MYORK1EFDD for $10 off your first order! Investing in a set of good quality meal prep containers makes it easier to store and organize meals for the whole family.

One of the best tools I’ve discovered is the Skylight Calendar. One of my favorite features is that everyone gets their own color, so it helps keep us organized as a family. It helps us keep track of appointments, school events, and practices. The older kids can easily look at it and see what they have going on the next day and are old enough to prep what they need the night before.

Be sure to see my tips on keeping your home organized.

Beauty

I’ve been testing out different skincare products as my skin changes and I’ve recently discovered RMS Beauty. I have sensitive skin and their clean skincare lineup feels so luxurious. ( Use code MARGARET20 for 20% off any RMS beauty product.) While it is an investment, my Dyson hair dryer cuts down on dry time so much and the air wrap helps give me a blowout look. A set of eye patches and tinted moisturizer are lifesavers on those busy mornings. In the winter I like to use self-tanner, especially when I have a photoshoot booked.

See all of my daily beauty favorites.

Sports Mom

These days, I’m constantly shuttling the kids to evening practices, weekend matches, and tournaments. From those freezing mornings to the sweltering summer evenings, there are a few essentials I’ve come to rely on to make our time outdoors more enjoyable. I try to pack a cooler full of snacks like raw cashews, berries, cheese, and dark chocolate. Keeping this Stanley 2 gallon water jug full has saved us all on those day-long tournaments when water bottles need refilled. I also rely on my favorite LMNT electrolyte grapefruit powder to keep hydrated.

Health & Wellness

Once I take the kids to school, it’s my time for a bit of health and wellness. When the weather is nice enough, I like to run outside. During the winter, I rely on my Peloton treadmill. If I need a break in the day, it’s so easy to hop on and catch up on a show. I also like to use that time to listen to a podcast focused on business development from female entrepreneurs to help boost my creativity and inspire my own business.

Being a mom is a full-time job, and having these mom essentials on hand has made my life so much easier. I hope these essentials help you, too! For more tips, be sure to read my posts on healthy items to stock your kitchen and easy and healthy lunch ideas from dietician Hannah Holzum.

Fall Wardrobe Wish List

Fall Wardrobe Wish List

I am drawn to timeless, classic pieces for my fall wardrobe. From a classic bag to textured flats, a trench coat and a long denim skirt, to deep burgundy dresses to tops, my fall wardrobe wishlist embraces a sophisticated, timeless style. I tend to invest in a few quality pieces each year instead of trendy items that quickly fade out of style.

Fall Wardrobe Wish List

A Classic Bag:

At the top of my list is a structured, top-handle bag in rich caramel or deep brown leather. It exudes classic elegance and pairs perfectly with cozy fall ensembles. This piece will surely stand the test of time and elevate any outfit, whether it’s a casual daytime look or a more polished evening ensemble.

Textured Flats:

I have my eye on a pair of these textured flats in a beautiful blue hue. Whether it’s a woven texture or subtle embossing, flats add a touch of understated luxury to any fall outfit. Paired with a long denim skirt or tailored trousers, they effortlessly elevate the overall look.

Trench Coat:

A well-tailored trench coat is a must-have for the fall season. Its timeless appeal and understated sophistication instantly elevate any outfit.

Long Denim Skirt:

I am coveting a long denim skirt for a touch of timeless casual elegance. Paired with a cozy sweater and a classic bag, this piece effortlessly captures the classic aesthetic I’m aiming for. Its versatility and classic appeal make it a wardrobe staple for the fall season and beyond.

Deep Burgundy Pieces:

Embracing the rich, jewel-tone hues of fall, I am drawn to deep burgundy dresses and tops. These classic pieces exude a sense of sophistication and timeless elegance, perfect for autumn gatherings and crisp evenings.

Barn Jacket:

A barn jacket is a must-have for my fall wardrobe. Its rugged yet refined look complements the timeless style I aim to embody this season, whether layered over a cropped sweater or a white tee.

Classic Striped Sweater:

A classic striped sweater is a wardrobe essential with its timeless nautical charm. Paired with wide-leg jeans or a flared denim skirt, it embodies the classic, understated style. Its versatility and timeless appeal make it a perfect addition to my seasonal wishlist.

I have more items on my wishlist over on ShopMy. If you’re looking for inspiration to get you through early fall, I have a collection on fall transitional pieces.

Fall Home Update with Birch Lane

Fall Home Update with Birch Lane

Fall Home Update with Birch Lane

Each new season is the perfect time to refresh and reset your home. I enjoy refreshing, purging, and organizing our spaces at this time of year. I often look around our home and identify neglected areas. I recently partnered with Birch Lane for a much-needed update to a hallway in our home. In today’s post, I will share how we added a beautiful bookshelf and created a functional and charming drop zone.

Fall Home Update with Birch Lane

Start with your main piece

I was looking for a new bookshelf to display coffee table books, decor items, and touches of seasonal decor. The Elin bookcase fit perfectly into this space, and I thought the price was great! I loved the classic lines on this piece and the brass ring pulls. While it has shelves, I love the drawer feature where you can tuck away items that don’t need to be displayed but need to be nearby. I plan on using it to store all the candlesticks and holders I use throughout the year. I chose the white bookshelf to pop against our blue grasscloth wallpaper, but the navy colorway is also gorgeous!

Lighting is always a good idea

I added the Donati floor lamp because every space needs a touch of warmth that doesn’t come from overhead lighting. This narrow, sleek lamp would be an excellent addition to any living space. I balanced out the other side of the bookshelf with a rattan storage basket that I find perfect for storing throw blankets or shoes!

Functionality is key

I have always enjoyed styling bookshelves with beautiful decor pieces, but I also like to keep each surface functional. The Edelie 2-piece decorative boxes were the perfect addition because they are great for storing mail, photos, or even keys. They are also beautiful decor pieces that stand out on the white shelves! I put them on separate shelves to balance the overall design. These and the wicker basket near the bottom helped bring texture and warmth while also being great storage solutions.

Shop your home

I shopped my home to add various heights and textures to the overall look of the remaining items. Shopping your own home is truly underrated! I added coffee table books in warm tones because of the approaching fall season. If you are running low on decor pieces, folded blankets on shelves make a beautiful statement and are a great filler. It is one of my favorite styling hacks! And again, because of fall, I had to add some faux mini pumpkins and fresh dahlias that came straight from the garden. I then added a decorative coat hook for jackets or sweaters and the cutest sweater weather pendant I found on Etsy!

This hallway feels seasonally fresh and perfectly blends classic design and functional storage. A perfect mini fall home update! Touches of Fall

Touches of Fall home decor

As soon as the temperatures start to drop, I get the urge to add subtle touches of fall warmth to our home. This is one of my favorite seasons of the year. I enjoy comforting seasonal meals and making our home as cozy as possible. Decorating your home seasonally doesn’t have to be stressful and all-encompassing. As a busy mom of four, we are in the throes of fall sports and activities and I prefer to add seasonal decor over time instead of spending all weekend decorating. Here are some of the touches of fall I add early in the season.

Touches of Fall

Wreaths

There is something so great about a front porch in the fall. I love to sweep ours off and put down a new door mat knowing that pumpkins will soon surround it. Add in a seasonal wreath and you have a perfect little vignette. It always makes me smile whenever I come home.

Doormats

Throw Pillows

Sometimes I change our throw pillows to warm, earthy tones. Chocolate brown is a classic color. If you’re not ready to fully commit, adding throw pillows in these shades is a great way to bring an autumnal feel to your space without being cliche.

Candles

Fall candles and soaps are some of the easiest ways to add touches of fall to your home. You don’t have to figure out if it will match any of your current decor. It’s as simple as finding your favorite scents and placing them in the bathrooms, kitchen, and living spaces.

Soaps

If you’re looking for more fall home decor inspiration, I have several fall-themed blog posts from over the years so be sure to check them out! If you’re ready to refresh your fall wardrobe, you can see my Fall Wish List over on Shop My.
