Simple Ways to Add Curb Appeal to your Home

Simple Ways to Add Curb Appeal to your Home

Adding curb appeal to your home is a great way to make a positive first impression and increase the overall value of your property. Whether you’re looking to sell your home or simply want to enhance its appearance, there are many simple ways to do so. Today, I am sharing some of my favorite ways to add curb appeal to your home exterior.

Simple Ways to Add Curb Appeal to your Home

Refresh your doormat

I love sweeping outside our front door and making sure our entry is welcoming and clean for our guests.  It is also believed to be good luck in feng shui as it is believed that keeping your front door entry clean will bring luck and opportunities. I love to sweep it off and add a doormat for some charm! Here are a few recent favorites.

Update your mailbox

Updating your address numbers and mailbox can add a touch of personality and style to your home’s exterior. Choose easy-to-read numbers and consider a mailbox that complements the overall style of your home.

Paint your front door

Your front door is the focal point of your home’s exterior, so giving it a facelift can have a significant impact on the overall look of your home. Consider giving your front door a fresh coat of paint in a bold color, adding a decorative wreath, or installing new hardware or a beautiful door knocker for a quick and easy update.

Exterior Lights

Nothing says “welcome home” in the evenings than pulling up in the drive and seeing our home all aglow with our exterior lights. It provides that coziness we all yearn for in our homes. You could also install pathway lights and uplighting for trees. From wall sconces on the front porch to string lights stretched over our back patio area, adding a variety of exterior lighting you love is something you won’t regret.

Update your planters

One of my favorite ways to add curb appeal to our home is by updating our planters. It’s such an easy way to change out the look of your home by planting seasonal flowers and plants. I use a variety of smaller terracotta and blue and white chinoiserie planters combined with larger classic Chippendale planters. This adds variety in both shape and size for an overall cohesive look.

Mom Essentials

Today, I am sharing some things I can’t live without as a mom of four. Being a mom is one of the most rewarding experiences, and it can also be quite challenging. I’ve come to rely on a few must-haves that have made my life so much easier. These mom essentials will make your daily routine smoother and keep you organized.

Home

I vacuum the kitchen every night with my cordless Dyson vacuum. It’s lightweight and I am not sure how I ever lived without it! It’s so much easier than dragging out a heavier, corded vacuum and it’s easy for the kids to use as well, which is always a bonus!

To get ahead of the week, I prep fruit and other easy-to-grab items in to-go containers. Planning and preparing meals in advance can be a lifesaver for busy moms. I also rely on Instacart grocery delivery for those busy weeks. It saves me so much time not having to go into town to get groceries and household items. Plus, I love being able to add to my cart throughout the week when I realize we’re out of something before placing my order. Sign up using code MYORK1EFDD for $10 off your first order! Investing in a set of good quality meal prep containers makes it easier to store and organize meals for the whole family.

One of the best tools I’ve discovered is the Skylight Calendar. One of my favorite features is that everyone gets their own color, so it helps keep us organized as a family. It helps us keep track of appointments, school events, and practices. The older kids can easily look at it and see what they have going on the next day and are old enough to prep what they need the night before.

Be sure to see my tips on keeping your home organized.

Beauty

I’ve been testing out different skincare products as my skin changes and I’ve recently discovered RMS Beauty. I have sensitive skin and their clean skincare lineup feels so luxurious. ( Use code MARGARET20 for 20% off any RMS beauty product.) While it is an investment, my Dyson hair dryer cuts down on dry time so much and the air wrap helps give me a blowout look. A set of eye patches and tinted moisturizer are lifesavers on those busy mornings. In the winter I like to use self-tanner, especially when I have a photoshoot booked.

See all of my daily beauty favorites.

Sports Mom

These days, I’m constantly shuttling the kids to evening practices, weekend matches, and tournaments. From those freezing mornings to the sweltering summer evenings, there are a few essentials I’ve come to rely on to make our time outdoors more enjoyable. I try to pack a cooler full of snacks like raw cashews, berries, cheese, and dark chocolate. Keeping this Stanley 2 gallon water jug full has saved us all on those day-long tournaments when water bottles need refilled. I also rely on my favorite LMNT electrolyte grapefruit powder to keep hydrated.

Health & Wellness

Once I take the kids to school, it’s my time for a bit of health and wellness. When the weather is nice enough, I like to run outside. During the winter, I rely on my Peloton treadmill. If I need a break in the day, it’s so easy to hop on and catch up on a show. I also like to use that time to listen to a podcast focused on business development from female entrepreneurs to help boost my creativity and inspire my own business.

Being a mom is a full-time job, and having these mom essentials on hand has made my life so much easier. I hope these essentials help you, too! For more tips, be sure to read my posts on healthy items to stock your kitchen and easy and healthy lunch ideas from dietician Hannah Holzum.

Fall Wardrobe Wish List

Fall Wardrobe Wish List

I am drawn to timeless, classic pieces for my fall wardrobe. From a classic bag to textured flats, a trench coat and a long denim skirt, to deep burgundy dresses to tops, my fall wardrobe wishlist embraces a sophisticated, timeless style. I tend to invest in a few quality pieces each year instead of trendy items that quickly fade out of style.

Fall Wardrobe Wish List

A Classic Bag:

At the top of my list is a structured, top-handle bag in rich caramel or deep brown leather. It exudes classic elegance and pairs perfectly with cozy fall ensembles. This piece will surely stand the test of time and elevate any outfit, whether it’s a casual daytime look or a more polished evening ensemble.

Textured Flats:

I have my eye on a pair of these textured flats in a beautiful blue hue. Whether it’s a woven texture or subtle embossing, flats add a touch of understated luxury to any fall outfit. Paired with a long denim skirt or tailored trousers, they effortlessly elevate the overall look.

Trench Coat:

A well-tailored trench coat is a must-have for the fall season. Its timeless appeal and understated sophistication instantly elevate any outfit.

Long Denim Skirt:

I am coveting a long denim skirt for a touch of timeless casual elegance. Paired with a cozy sweater and a classic bag, this piece effortlessly captures the classic aesthetic I’m aiming for. Its versatility and classic appeal make it a wardrobe staple for the fall season and beyond.

Deep Burgundy Pieces:

Embracing the rich, jewel-tone hues of fall, I am drawn to deep burgundy dresses and tops. These classic pieces exude a sense of sophistication and timeless elegance, perfect for autumn gatherings and crisp evenings.

Barn Jacket:

A barn jacket is a must-have for my fall wardrobe. Its rugged yet refined look complements the timeless style I aim to embody this season, whether layered over a cropped sweater or a white tee.

Classic Striped Sweater:

A classic striped sweater is a wardrobe essential with its timeless nautical charm. Paired with wide-leg jeans or a flared denim skirt, it embodies the classic, understated style. Its versatility and timeless appeal make it a perfect addition to my seasonal wishlist.

I have more items on my wishlist over on ShopMy. If you’re looking for inspiration to get you through early fall, I have a collection on fall transitional pieces.

Fall Home Update with Birch Lane

Fall Home Update with Birch Lane

Fall Home Update with Birch Lane

Each new season is the perfect time to refresh and reset your home. I enjoy refreshing, purging, and organizing our spaces at this time of year. I often look around our home and identify neglected areas. I recently partnered with Birch Lane for a much-needed update to a hallway in our home. In today’s post, I will share how we added a beautiful bookshelf and created a functional and charming drop zone.

Fall Home Update with Birch Lane

Start with your main piece

I was looking for a new bookshelf to display coffee table books, decor items, and touches of seasonal decor. The Elin bookcase fit perfectly into this space, and I thought the price was great! I loved the classic lines on this piece and the brass ring pulls. While it has shelves, I love the drawer feature where you can tuck away items that don’t need to be displayed but need to be nearby. I plan on using it to store all the candlesticks and holders I use throughout the year. I chose the white bookshelf to pop against our blue grasscloth wallpaper, but the navy colorway is also gorgeous!

Lighting is always a good idea

I added the Donati floor lamp because every space needs a touch of warmth that doesn’t come from overhead lighting. This narrow, sleek lamp would be an excellent addition to any living space. I balanced out the other side of the bookshelf with a rattan storage basket that I find perfect for storing throw blankets or shoes!

fall home decor

Functionality is key

I have always enjoyed styling bookshelves with beautiful decor pieces, but I also like to keep each surface functional. The Edelie 2-piece decorative boxes were the perfect addition because they are great for storing mail, photos, or even keys. They are also beautiful decor pieces that stand out on the white shelves! I put them on separate shelves to balance the overall design. These and the wicker basket near the bottom helped bring texture and warmth while also being great storage solutions.

Shop your home

I shopped my home to add various heights and textures to the overall look of the remaining items. Shopping your own home is truly underrated! I added coffee table books in warm tones because of the approaching fall season. If you are running low on decor pieces, folded blankets on shelves make a beautiful statement and are a great filler. It is one of my favorite styling hacks! And again, because of fall, I had to add some faux mini pumpkins and fresh dahlias that came straight from the garden. I then added a decorative coat hook for jackets or sweaters and the cutest sweater weather pendant I found on Etsy!

This hallway feels seasonally fresh and perfectly blends classic design and functional storage. A perfect mini fall home update! Touches of Fall

Touches of Fall home decor

As soon as the temperatures start to drop, I get the urge to add subtle touches of fall warmth to our home. This is one of my favorite seasons of the year. I enjoy comforting seasonal meals and making our home as cozy as possible. Decorating your home seasonally doesn’t have to be stressful and all-encompassing. As a busy mom of four, we are in the throes of fall sports and activities and I prefer to add seasonal decor over time instead of spending all weekend decorating. Here are some of the touches of fall I add early in the season.

Touches of Fall

Wreaths

There is something so great about a front porch in the fall. I love to sweep ours off and put down a new door mat knowing that pumpkins will soon surround it. Add in a seasonal wreath and you have a perfect little vignette. It always makes me smile whenever I come home.

Doormats

Throw Pillows

Sometimes I change our throw pillows to warm, earthy tones. Chocolate brown is a classic color. If you’re not ready to fully commit, adding throw pillows in these shades is a great way to bring an autumnal feel to your space without being cliche.

Candles

Fall candles and soaps are some of the easiest ways to add touches of fall to your home. You don’t have to figure out if it will match any of your current decor. It’s as simple as finding your favorite scents and placing them in the bathrooms, kitchen, and living spaces.

Soaps

If you’re looking for more fall home decor inspiration, I have several fall-themed blog posts from over the years so be sure to check them out! If you’re ready to refresh your fall wardrobe, you can see my Fall Wish List over on Shop My.

Michigan Summers

Michigan Summers

Michigan Summers

Summers spent in Northern Michigan have always been a special time for my family. For six weeks every year, we pack up and head to Lake Michigan to enjoy the beautiful scenery, outdoor activities, and quality family time. Our days are filled with sunshine, laughter, and the tradition of coming together as a family during summer passed down through generations.

Our family’s connection to Lake Michigan runs deep. My grandfather’s experience with polio as a young boy led to a life-changing recommendation from his doctor – to seek the healing benefits of the cool air and lake waters. As a result, our extended family has been coming to Lake Michigan for generations. What was once a response to a medical condition has become a source of joy, rejuvenation, and connection for our entire family.

Our day-to-day at the lake

My mom, brother, sister, and their families also spend time with us on Lake Michigan. It’s a special opportunity to create memories and watch our children enjoy the summer together. I love to start my mornings there with an early morning walk along the lake. It’s the best way to start the day followed by a cup of coffee on our front porch which overlooks the lake.

The kids have planned activities in the morning, including blueberry picking, dune buggy rides, scavenger hunts, and much more. This gives the parents a free morning to go for walks or get in a little tennis. Every Thursday afternoon there are frog, toad, and turtle races. So Thursday mornings you will often see parents taking their kids turtle hunting so they can join the race that afternoon. The kids love this tradition! As soon as the race is over they head out and release their catch!

While we were there, we spent a lot of time at the beach. My favorite time to go is in the afternoon and stay until early dinner time. It’s the most magical time at the beach, with that golden hour glow. Some nights, we pack a picnic dinner and enjoy slow evenings at the beach. We also spend a lot of time at the tennis courts. The kids take lessons and love spending time at the courts with their friends. After tennis they often head to the “coffee shop” and get a blue moon ice cream cone.

Friendships

Over the years, we have formed deep and lasting friendships with other families who also return to Lake Michigan each summer. The sense of community and shared experiences has enriched our lives in ways we never could have imagined. Now that we’re back home on the farm, we are already anticipating the next summer in Michigan. The memories we’ve created, the traditions we’ve upheld, and the natural beauty we’ve immersed ourselves in make it a place that will forever hold a special spot in our hearts.

We keep all our beach essentials stored at the house there. You can find all of my must-haves in this beach essentials blog post.

Five Wardrobe Essentials

Wardrobe Essentials

When it comes to building a versatile and functional wardrobe, having the right essentials can make all the difference. Whether you’re a minimalist at heart or someone who loves to experiment with different styles, having these five wardrobe essentials in your closet can help you create endless outfit options that are both timeless and chic.

Five Wardrobe Essentials

1. Classic White T-Shirt:

A classic white t-shirt is a must-have wardrobe essential. It’s incredibly versatile and can be dressed up or down for any occasion. Whether you pair it with jeans for a casual look or tuck it into a skirt for a more polished ensemble, a well-fitting white t-shirt is a staple that will never go out of style. This Conrad t-shirt is my current favorite that I’ve been reaching for lately.

2. Little Black or White Dress:

No wardrobe is complete without a little black or white dress. Whether it’s a tailored sheath dress or a flowy wrap dress, having a go-to LBD/LWD in your closet ensures that you’re always prepared for last-minute dinner parties, cocktail events, or even a formal work function. The key is to choose a style that flatters your figure and can be accessorized to suit any occasion.

3. Button-Down Shirt:

A button-down is a versatile piece that can effortlessly elevate any outfit. Whether you’re dressing it up for work or simply want to add a touch of sophistication to a casual look, a classic button-down is a go-to option. You can pair it with a skirt, with tailored trousers, or even wear it with jeans or shorts for a stylish, yet relaxed vibe. I love this one from Sezane that comes in a variety of colors and prints.

4. Jeans:

A pair of jeans in your preferred style is a wardrobe essential that can take you from day to night with ease. I lean toward a fit that is flattering and classic. And the right cut that can work for almost any top and shoe. Investing in a high-quality pair will ensure that you have an essential piece for countless outfits.

5. Versatile Shoes:

A pair of versatile shoes is the finishing touch to any outfit. Whether it’s a classic pair of black heels, comfortable white sneakers, or your favorite loafer, having a go-to pair of shoes can tie your entire look together. Opt for styles that can transition seamlessly from day to night and from casual to formal occasions.

Bonus:

An everything bag is key to any wardrobe. A tote bag to carry everything you’ll need in a day should fit the bill. My best advice is to find one with long enough handles to comfortably sit on your shoulders.

These five wardrobe essentials are the building blocks of a timeless and functional wardrobe. By investing in high-quality pieces that fit well and can be mixed and matched, you can create endless outfit options while always looking put-together and chic. You can read more about my favorite classic wardrobe pieces here and my favorites from Sezane here.

Guest Room Essentials

Guest Room Essentials

Creating a welcoming and comfortable guest room is essential for ensuring that visitors feel at home during their stay. Whether it’s for family, friends, or other guests, a well-prepared guest room can make a significant difference in their overall experience. To achieve this, I like to have a few key guest room essentials on hand to provide convenience, comfort, and a touch of hospitality.

Guest Room Essentials

The Bed

The focal point of any guest room is, of course, the bed. Providing a comfortable mattress and quality bedding is crucial. I love this Signature Duvet System to make it easy to swap out inserts. Freshly laundered sheets, a variety of pillows, and extra blankets like this waffle weave blanket and this one from Chappywrap, will ensure that guests can adjust their sleeping arrangements to their preferences. Consider adding a small bench for convenience.

Toiletries and Towels

Stocking the guest bathroom with essential toiletries such as soap, shampoo, conditioner, and lotion is a thoughtful touch. Additionally, providing a set of soft, clean towels- bath towels, hand towels, and washcloths- will make guests feel well taken care of.

Storage and Luggage Space

Clear out a dresser or closet space where guests can unpack and store their belongings. Provide empty hangers, a luggage rack, and possibly a small empty drawer provides ample space for guests to keep their clothing and personal items organized. If this isn’t possible, having a wall rack or the back of the door would work. Or, you can use a garment rack in the corner for guests to hand up their clothing.

Guest Room Essentials

Lighting and Mirrors

I like to include a variety of lighting options. Provide bedside lamps or sconces for reading, as well as overhead lighting. A full-length mirror or at least a good sized wall mirror will allow guests to check their appearance before heading out for the day.

Chair

If there’s space, a cozy chair is a nice touch for guests to be able to sit in and relax with a book. It makes the space feel more homey and welcoming. To me it says, relax and stay awhile. Plus, it’s nice if there’s more than one person staying in the guest room.

Extra Touches

Consider adding a bedside table with a clock and a few reading materials, such as magazines or books. A small tray with a water carafe and glasses can be a lovely gesture. Wi-Fi information can also be helpful for guests so that they don’t have to ask for it. Similarly, if there are any additional security codes they need for the front door, this would be great to include along with a spare key. This way they can come and go as they please. Providing some of their favorite snacks is also a nice touch in case they’re hungry after a day of traveling. An extra phone charger is a great idea in case they have forgotten theirs. A small trash can is something that is often overlooked and can easily be tucked away. A small, handheld steamer is helpful to get rid of those suitcase wrinkles.

By providing these guest room essentials, you can ensure that your visitors feel comfortable and valued during their stay. It’s the little things that can make a big difference and leave a lasting impression of hospitality.

A Blue and White Breakfast Nook

A Blue and White Breakfast Nook

When I start a new home design project, I like to revisit previous projects to remind myself about the end result. The joy on the faces of my clients when they see the final reveal is one of my favorite moments of a project. It gives me new inspiration for future clients and pushes me to try new things because I want every project to have its own unique design. I had so much fun with this blue and white breakfast nook from a few years ago. It is one of my favorite corners of this home renovation!

Like I have often said blue and white is always right… especially in this welcoming breakfast nook. I love layering different shades of blue in various textures; this nook was the perfect opportunity. We started by lightening up the walls with a bright white paint. I really wanted the fabrics to show off and get all the natural light possible in here. Navy rattan chairs, a navy and white striped rug (similar rug here) , a beautiful print from Quadrille Fabrics for the pillows, and perennials heavy-duty fabric on the bench seat achieve that. I chose a polished nickel lantern and I love how it looks against the Roman shades. A perfect morning brunch spot was achieved!

A Blue and White Breakfast Nook

It’s All in the Details

I find that while the big design choices are fundamental to any project, the little details are equally important. I took a lazy Susan the client already had and added a beautiful rattan pitcher to serve as a vase for fresh hydrangeas. For year-round hydrangeas, you can’t beat these faux white stems or these green ones. The light blue pitcher was also a part of the owner’s collection but you could probably find something similar at an antique shop. To bring in a different shade of blue, the blue rim of these glasses does the trick. These rattan-wrapped tumblers match the rattan pitcher nicely and can also be used as small vases. The navy ones would also work nicely. Little snack bowls bring another pattern to the mix and brighten up the white table. Don’t be afraid to mix and match different patterns and prints like I did here. Staying in the same color scheme is what makes this achievable.

Summer Wardrobe Staples

Summer Wardrobe Staples

Summer Wardrobe Staples

It’s officially summer and it’s time to revamp our wardrobes for the warmer season. My summer wardrobe is a carefully curated collection of versatile, high-quality clothing that can be mixed and matched to create a wide range of stylish outfits. It’s all about embracing simplicity, streamlining your closet, and focusing on timeless pieces that reflect your style. When creating a summer wardrobe, starting with a color palette that reflects you is essential. I lean towards light, airy colors such as crisp whites, soft pastels, and muted neutrals. These hues capture the essence of summer and allow for easy coordination and layering.

Key pieces for a summer wardrobe capsule often include breezy sundresses, lightweight blouses, comfortable shorts, and well-fitting jeans. These items form the foundation of your summer looks and can be complemented with versatile outerwear, such as a classic denim jacket or a lightweight sweater for cooler evenings. Investing in high-quality, durable fabrics is crucial when building a summer wardrobe. Look for breathable materials like cotton, linen, and silk to keep you comfortable in the heat while maintaining a polished appearance. Additionally, prioritizing timeless silhouettes over fleeting trends can help ensure that your summer wardrobe remains relevant season after season.

Accessorizing plays a significant role in enhancing the versatility of a summer wardrobe staple capsule. A few accessories, such as a wide-brimmed hat, a woven tote bag, and sandals, can effortlessly elevate and transform your summer fashion outfits. By embracing the concept of a perfect summer wardrobe essentials capsule, you can simplify your daily dressing routine while still expressing your style. With a thoughtfully selected collection of garments and accessories, you’ll find that getting dressed becomes a breeze, allowing you to make the most of the season without compromising style.

Summer Wardrobe Essentials

Denim & Shorts

For denim, you can’t go wrong with straight-leg jeans. They go with just about everything! For the on-trend wide-leg jeans, I would pair them with a classic t-shirt and a sweater over my shoulders for chilly nights. To elevate your classic style, consider pairing denim with a striped tee for an instant classic look—perfect for barbeques, ball games, or boating adventures. Everyone needs a reliable pair of summer denim that effortlessly combines comfort and style for those sunny outings. Whether dressed up or down, classic denim remains a timeless staple in any wardrobe.

Skirts

I love a good skirt and t-shirt! These are my go-to staples from spring to fall, and I appreciate how easy they are to layer. I usually pair them with a simple white tank or t-shirt, and I often tie a sweater around my shoulders or layer it over the t-shirt.

What I particularly love about skirts is their versatility—they can be dressed up or down effortlessly. In the summer, a flowy midi or a classic A-line skirt can create a timeless and elegant look that’s perfect for any occasion. Simply add a pair of chic sandals or classy flats, and you’re ready for brunch or a night out.

To elevate the outfit further, I always recommend pairing it with a woven tote and stylish sunglasses. These accessories add that instant classic vibe, making the whole look feel polished yet relaxed. There’s something so refreshing about embracing this timeless style during the warmer months, embodying simplicity and sophistication all at once.

Tops

For tops, I lean towards classic fits: a crisp white tee, a blue and white striped sleeveless tank, and a classic white button-down. A white tank that can be paired with just about anything or layered under a sweater for those cool evenings.

It’s essential to incorporate classic and timeless staples that work seamlessly with both skirts and denim. A lightweight sweater is perfect for chilly summer evenings, offering a versatile piece that can be layered over shoulders or worn on its own. Having several classic white top staples in my wardrobe is great because they provide a clean, fresh foundation that can be dressed up or down, easily transitioning from casual outings to more polished looks. These items not only complement a variety of bottoms but also lend an air of sophistication to any outfit.

Dresses

I prefer to wear dresses made of loose fabrics on hot summer days. A classic shirtdress or linen sundress is perfect for special occasions, such as graduations and weddings. I love incorporating timeless styles into my wardrobe that can easily mix and match, making travel a breeze. Neutral colors like beige, white, and soft pastels serve as a versatile base, while a splash of color—like a vibrant coral or a deep blue—adds personality and flair. These interchangeable pieces not only keep me cool but also ensure I always look effortlessly put together, no matter the occasion.

Shoes

I keep my summer footwear choices classic and timeless. My everyday staples include a pair of elegant leather sandals and a sleek pair of white canvas sneakers. These versatile options pair effortlessly with any outfit, from casual shorts to flowing maxi dresses. For a bit of flair, I might choose simple espadrilles or classic flats that add a touch of sophistication without sacrificing comfort. Additionally, a pair of minimalist slide sandals works beautifully for laid-back outings while still maintaining a polished look. By focusing on timeless styles and neutral colors, I ensure that my summer shoes can complement any ensemble, making them essential pieces in my wardrobe.

Bags

My summer bags are all about raffia in various shapes, from clutches to totes. I really love how these pieces keep classic lines while adding a laid-back, chic vibe to any outfit. A classic straw tote is an absolute must-have for summer days at the beach or picnics in the park. It’s not just practical; it also adds a timeless touch to my look. On the other hand, a cute clutch is perfect for those evenings out, providing a stylish complement to a summer dress or a casual night out. Each bag, whether it’s the refined silhouette of the tote or the playful charm of the clutch, embodies the essence of summer elegance.

Swimsuits

These classic swimsuits fit all your pool and beach day needs. I’d throw over a cute matching set or one of my favorite pareos or sarongs to complete the look.

You can find all of these and more over on my ShopMy page. You can read about my favorite beach essentials if you’re looking for more summertime must-haves.

Daily Beauty Favorites

Daily Beauty Favorites

I must admit, I have never been great at doing makeup. In fact, back in college, my best friend used to do it for me before we headed out for the night. However, as I have gotten older, I have come to realize the importance of taking good care of my skin. Lately, I have been having a lot of fun experimenting with new beauty products. Since my skin tends to be dry and has some redness (anyone else with fair skin out there?), I have spent a lot of time and money trying out various products to see what works best for me. After many trials and tests, I have finally found what works best for my skin, and I’m excited to share with you some of my go-to daily beauty favorites.

Daily Beauty Favorites

SKIN

As I age, I’ve come to realize the importance of keeping my skin hydrated. I have been using RMS Beauty products as my go-to skincare both in the morning and at night. These products are not only hydrating but also make my skin feel radiant and nourished. I usually apply Ialuset Hyaluronic Acid between the oil and moisturizer to help lock in moisture.

I also use Alpyn Beauty’s Instant Bright Eye Firming Cream. The final and most important step is sunscreen! If I’m not wearing makeup that day, I’ll use Supergoop’s Glowscreen sunscreen for a hint of color and glow. Under makeup, I’ll wear their Unseen sunscreen.

rms beauty products

FACE

I’m currently loving the Kosas concealer and Jones Road Beauty stick for concealing my under-eye bags and dark circles. To use them, I apply the Kosas concealer under my eyes and blend it with my favorite BB beauty brush. Then, I create a semi-circle line with the Jones Road pencil and blend it with the same brush to brighten the area. The Jones Road pencil is easy to control, and I use this BK beauty brush to blend it.

For foundation, I use RMS Beauty in shade 33. It’s easy to blend with a beauty blender and provides long-lasting coverage. The added bonus is that the bottle is refillable. On the days when I am going for that no makeup makeup look, I like to use the Dior Forever Glow Star filter. I’ve also used Ilia’s skin tint for a touch of coverage and Tarte’s 16-hour full-coverage foundation when I need something to last all day.

For bronzer, I have been using the Ilia bronzer for several years now and I absolutely love it. To add a pop of color to my cheekbones, I layer the RMS Beauty Hydra powder blush in shade Bermuda Rose to my cheekbones.

I love to fill in my eyebrows with this Ilia eyebrow pencil. It fills in easily, providing natural-looking brow fullness. I have a scar on my eyebrow, and this fills it in beautifully. I have tried many different mascaras but the one that remains my #1 favorite is the Diorshow. First, I curl my eyelashes and then apply 2 coats for the desired effect. I also use Sweed’s Lash Lift mascara and eyelash growth serum.

To finish off the look, I’ve been leaning towards Dior’s Addict Lip Glow Oil in pink. As someone who grew up in the height of lip gloss, this is similar to a gloss without the stickiness. It’s the perfect touch of color.

What to Pack for 30A in Summer

While we typically travel to our home in 30A during the offseason, we also try to get down there for a week during the high season. Summer in Florida is hot and humid, but it’s also a great time to enjoy the sunshine, beaches, and outdoor activities. You’ll likely be spending all day at the beach or pool. If you are planning a trip to Florida during the summer months, you’ll want to make sure you pack appropriately to stay cool and comfortable. Here are some tips on what I would pack for Florida in the high season.

What to Pack for 30A in Summer

Clothing

The biggest question of what to pack is clothing. I try to pack lightweight, breezy clothing to keep me cool when out and about in Florida. Dresses are easy to throw on and go while still being chic. I also dress casually during the day so I find myself packing breathable athleisurewear to run to get coffee and breakfast.

Swimwear

You’ll likely be spending the majority of your time at the pool or beach so packing several swimsuits is key, especially since they don’t take up a lot of room in your suitcase. As a mom of four, I tend to lean toward swimsuits that are supportive on top as my kids are still fairly active and want me to play with them in the water. This year I’ve also fallen in love with pareos or sarongs to wrap around my waist. They are so chic! I also use them as a wrap in the evenings when the air conditioning in restaurants gets too chilly.

Sun Protection

This might be one of the most important things you pack during the high season in 30A. The sun in Florida is so strong and you need plenty of sun protection to keep you and your family from getting sunburned. From sunscreen to hats, make sure you pack plenty of options and re-apply often!

Shoes & Accessories

The finishing touch of what to pack are footwear and accessories. I typically pack only a few pairs of shoes when we go down to 30A. All you really need are a pair of sneakers, sandals, and maybe a cute wedge or heel for dinner out. For accessories, I keep the jewelry at a minimum because when it’s hot outside, you don’t want to be wearing a lot of heavy jewelry.
