CONSOLE TABLE STYLING

Disclosure: This post may contain affiliate links that I may earn a small commission from, at no additional cost to you. I only recommend products I would or have used myself.

Monday I was invited to go live on Serious Lip Balms facebook page and talk about styling an entry table! As promised here is the post breaking it all down!

IMG_7901.jpg
  1. Start with your table. We began with this gorgeous raffia console table. I love the added shelf because it gives another surface to style. We hung a beautiful painting that my client already had above the moulding about 4 inches. Anytime I hang art over a table I choose to hang it about 4-8 inches off the table top. This was an exception because there is woodwork breaking up the wall. Sometimes you just have to eyeball it and see what feels right and in this situation 4 inches above the trim felt right.

2. I grounded the table with a vintage wicker chest. This is the perfect piece for storage of beach towels, shoes, what have you! You could do two large baskets as well!

3. Add in a lamp for warmth and a cozy feel when you enter your home. It also pulls the art and table together and makes everything cohesive.

4. Accessorize with books, vases for height, woven boxes and trays as catchalls for keys, sunglasses, and sunscreen. Put fresh florals or greenery in your vase or leaving it empty is also just as beautiful.

Friday Five . Beach Edition

Happy Friday Friends!

Today I am rounding up the most important items for the beach. Swimwear, sunnies, hats, and most important: sunscreen! I am normally a black and white swimwear girl but I am feeling the need for some colorful options this summer! Sunscreen is so important because…wrinkles and it really is no fun being burnt. I especially love the scalp mist protection especially for littles who won’t keep their hats on!

Enjoy and Happy Friday!

Setting the table

Disclosure: This post may contain affiliate links that I may earn a small commission from, at no additional cost to you. I only recommend products I would or have used myself.

One of my favorite parts of entertaining is setting the table and creating a beautiful tablescape. It can be as simple as putting out pretty linens to adding a vase of fresh flowers. There is something about the extra effort of setting the table that makes the meal that much better and your guests will appreciate the effort and thought.

Tablecloths

Start with your tablecloth. It’s great to have different options so when you throw an impromptu barbecue or Mother’s Day brunch you will be set! Choose your tablecloth depending on the type of table you have and make sure it is a few inches longer than your table so it isn’t too short.

I love a block print with character but solid linen is also just as beautiful. Make sure your linens are pressed or steamed (I like to do this right when they come out of the dryer after washing them and then hang them up in the closet).

placemats

Here is my secret to placemats. If you buy raffia/woven/rattan you won’t have to iron them! It really does make the whole process faster! Plus I love the added texture when you layer them over your tablecloth! My placemats were actually my grandmothers but there are so many similar options linked below!

Non iron is your friend here again! The options are endless when you look for linens but here are some of my blue and white favorites! Adding a monogram makes it feel so personal and polished!

Finish it off with a napkin ring, tie it in a knot, lay it flat, or tie it up with a ribbon!

Flatware

I started collecting brass flatware over the last couple of years. It really is fun to bring out a different set when you are entertaining that feels a little more fancy or special than your everyday flatware! There are many options with varying price ranges! I got my brass set from Target and love them!

Summer Dresses under $100

In the summer I love throwing on a dress, slides, and rolling out the door. I have always been a fan of a 5 minute outfit and dresses just make it that easy. They are comfortable, flowy, and easy. You can wear them day to night, winery to dinner date, grocery store to girls night. Here are some of my favorite pics for under $100.

Happy Friday Friends

This has quite possibly felt like the longest week ever. I am so ready for summer nights on the patio, by the lake, relaxing with family and friends. Life is short. This week put a lot of things in perspective for me and it reminded me of the importance of family and loved ones.

This week I somehow got my pinterest account suspended! They are working on the problem but I really rely on Pinterest to organize my blog posts so today I am winging it!

Site Visits

IMG_7339.JPG

One thing that kept me sane during the quarantine was being able to visit this one and only project site, because it is basically in my back yard. My husband and his business partner built a new shed where they make compost tea extract (explaining how this work would require a completely different blog post, lol). Part of the project required a kitchen/lab space for their employees. This has been a fun and totally different style of project for me. Lots of dark cabinetry because when you are working with dirt white just isn’t going to cut it. I can’t wait for the pendants to be hung and counters installed so we can do a tour for you!

Father’s Day

Sharing with you some of my favorite picks for the father figure in your life. Whether that be your husband, father, grandfather, or uncle.

What I’m cooking

This time of year when I don’t know what to make for dinner I usually throw everything on the grill and call it good. I have been making a lot of homemade pesto lately using Ina Garten’s Pesto recipe which is quite possibly the best. I drizzle it over cooked meat, add to pasta, marinate chicken in it. So many options for pesto!

Happy Friday Friends

I have been pretty quiet on here the last two weeks and I apologize. My heart has been heavy and I have been processing emotions that are hard to understand and trying to find the best way to utilize my voice. I am saddened that our beautiful world can be so full of hatred. After a lot of listening and processing feelings and emotions I know that I want to be a better ally.

I know that I can do better.

I want to share more diverse beauty

I want to live more inclusively.

I want to share more inclusively.

I want to do better.

I want to be better.

Better beyond this moment in history. Better beyond the social media posts (which are still very important)

It is so so important that this work continues on forever.

Today on the Friday Five I want to share with you 5 incredible accounts owned by beautiful black creators/designers/influencers. I know you will love these accounts as much as I do.

Wait You Need This

Janelle Marie Lloyd

Janelle shares her personal life, shopping finds, and all things interiors. She has backgrounds in both the interior design industry as well as the fashion industry. She shares so many incredible and achievable looks as well as attainable everyday stylish living. You will get sucked into this one!

Colette Shelton

Coco Cozy was one of the first blogs I started reading back when I had my first child. Colette is an executive by day, interior design guru/blogger by night. Named one of Forbes Top 30 Influencers, Colette has now created a huge fan base as well as her own furniture/textiles line. I love her simple yet classic approach to style and design. A must follow if you don’t already!

Diane Hill is an incredibly artist who specializes in one of my favorite areas, Chinoiserie. She was trained by Chinese artists and taught their traditional ways of painting. She works with both private and commercial clients to create both handmade wall coverings and bespoke murals. I would love to wrap my walls with her beautiful masterpieces.

This is one of the most beautiful accounts I have ever stumbled upon. It is full of inspiring photos of the French Countryside. Ajiri will have you wanting to pull out all of your good china for everyday use and move to France. She captures her everyday adventures with her beautiful children. I was immediately sucked in and found it hard to leave.

Victoria and her husband Marcus have classic style. I love looking through her colorful account for daily inspiration. Whether she is updating her followers on her One Room Challenge or taste testing all the ginger ales, she is a fun one to follow. I also appreciate her passion for preppy style and design and love watching her DIY’s. Definitely One to follow!

Happy Friday

It’s hard to believe we are at the end of May. How is that even possible? Summer is officially here which means we are grilling and making lots of salads.

I found this recipe on Pinterest and it is pretty amazing. It’s going to be on repeat around here this summer.

Summer must haves

When it comes to summer I love to throw on a cute dress, slides, and sunnies. Keep it easy and it makes getting dressed even easier. I love a little tan too but don’t want all the wrinkles that come with it so I love using a self tanner every now and then and I apply with a mit. This is super important! and exfoliate first! And Gardenia Rattan is my go to summer scent.

I recently read Elsa’s blog post on creating seasonal and daily intentions and it really hit home. Rather than focusing on a a resolution which we know puts so much pressure on each of us she chooses to focus on each season and day at hand. Happy Friday. From lilacs to peonies, my vases have been full of beauties from the backyard. This year I planted ten new peony plants that a friend picked up for me at a peony farm in southern Illinois. I am so excited to see how they do each year and it is going to be so hard to not cut from them for the first three years which is what is recommended. But you better believe year 3 we are filling those vases full of the coral variety I got! A couple of years ago I held my un bloomed peonies. It was exciting to pull them out of the fridge every couple of weeks to have new fresh blooms. Some worked and some did not. Here is an article on how to hold your blooms!

Fireplace Makeover

Disclosure: This post may contain affiliate links that I may earn a small commission from, at no additional cost to you. I only recommend products I would or have used myself.

For a couple of years now I have wanted to paint the stone on our fireplace. Is it my dream fireplace? No, but when we gutted this house 12 plus years ago it is the stone that I chose. Did I have a clue what I was doing then? No.. but I sure learned a lot about what not to do! The reason I wanted to paint the fireplace is because it was such a heavy spot in this room. Had the room been larger with vaulted ceilings it would not have felt so heavy and dark. Having all of this time at home I have been able to catch up on some of my own projects and I knew this was one I needed to tackle. Thanks to my husband Adam we finished it on Mother’s Day.

When using a paint sprayer it is so important to hang plastic on the surround areas and put down drop cloths. Paint will spray off and if you don’t do this you will get tiny specks of paint that you will have to clean off your floor. This will take you just as long to do as it takes to paint.

I highly suggest using an oil base primer for the first coat. Make sure you wash/clean/spray out your sprayer each time. You don’t want it to get clogged and if you don’t clean it out you will ruin it.

After priming with your oil based primer apply two coats of water based paint to the stone. There are a few spots I have to go back in and touch up that I am seeing a few days later and thats ok. You can use a brush for that. But get your main painting done with your sprayer, it will save you so much time!

Once you get spraying it goes really fast. The longest part is hanging your plastic and taping everything off!
