Serena and Lily Memorial Day Sale

It’s officially my favorite time of year! The Serena and Lily Memorial Day Sale starts today and EVERYTHING is 20% off!

I’m a huge fan of Serena and Lily, and I use many of their items when redecorating and redesigning my own home or working with clients. So, in honor of this annual sale, I’ll share with you some of my favorite finds to help inspire your shopping and summer redecorating ideas. I’ll mix in some of my Serena and Lily favorites that are on my personal shopping list along with some of my favorites I already own – so, let’s go shopping!

Living Room

I love this Watson Loveseat! A beautiful addition to any room needing a little extra seating, its fringe detail, and traditional lines keep it classic while adding some texture. And you can dress it up with a beautiful throw blanket or a lumbar pillow in a classic print.

The Balboa Collection is one of my faves and I’m so excited that they’ve added a handwoven, rattan round coffee table to the collection! Stay with that rattan theme and add my favorite Brighton Table Lamp as a fun accent, or use the mix of materials in this Larkspur Table Lamp to inspire a more playful redecorating theme in your living room or bedroom.

Entryway /Mudroom

Speaking of texture, this round mirror is definitely a favorite of mine and works both inside and outdoors. Use it to dress up a bare wall, or hang it in your entryway over this gorgeous Driftway Console or this simple Beach House Entryway Table.

This navy Prioano wallpaper is one of my favorite additions to my home! I currently have it in my mudroom and it makes the space feel so calm and happy!

Kitchen / Dining Room

I love this Downing 48” Dining Table and I use it in my office as extra workspace, but it would work perfectly in any kitchen or dining room. It would even pair well with a set of Sunwashed Riviera Dining Chairs in the natural or mist color, or these kid-friendly, bistro-inspired Riviera Dining Chairs.

This rattan Santa Barbara Taper Pendant goes so well over a kitchen island. And this South Seas Side Bar Cart is one of my favorite and most versatile items to use around my home.

Whether used as a side table, a nightstand, extra storage in your bathroom, or as a mini bar in the dining room, this item will be sure to elevate whatever space you put it in!

Bedroom

This Harbour cane rattan bed frame is a long-time favorite of mine. I love the mix of materials and the timeless cane pops against the white.

I also love this linen-wrapped Driftway Dresser, and if I had more space I would add this beautiful piece to my bedroom. And don’t let me forget this scallop side table. I’m such a sucker for scallops and it would make the perfect nightstand.

Bathroom

This bamboo double hamper is such a beautiful addition to your bathroom and will definitely make dealing with dirty clothes a little easier. I also have this Healdsburg Bath Collection on my shopping list, and although I usually stick with white, those tassel fringed bath towels and washcloths in sky blue are gorgeous.

Patio / Outdoors

Some of my favorite Serena and Lily pieces are perfect weather-friendly additions to your patio, such as this Trestle outdoor coffee table. Made from outdoor-ready wicker, it’s a perfect addition to your patio, but it’s also beautiful enough to use in your living room.

Another outdoor favorite of mine is these rattan Catalina Dining Chairs. I’ve always been a fan of these and they would look great around a patio table. These Outdoor Riviera Dining Chairs are also perfect to place around a patio table, and they’re easy to keep clean.

Under $200

Some of my favorite finds under $200 include this Banded Border bath towel in french blue, these teak sling removable chair fabrics which are perfect for the beach, and this Willowbrook embroidered pillow cover in white.

Replace the bedding in a children’s or guest room with this beautiful twin Suzani quilt, or dress the room up with navy, oxford stripes by adding this twin duvet cover or this striped wallpaper. And you can grab a few yards of this Basketweave Perennials Fabric for any redesign project. I like to keep it classic with white fabrics, and I love this one because it’s stain proof, mildew proof, and resistant to UV rays.

My Top Ten Summer Beach Reads

PG3021596-B982CC53-8E70-4FF4-A943-4A0959C77DEF.jpeg

Disclosure: This post may contain affiliate links that I may earn a small commission from, at no additional cost to you. I only recommend products I would or have used myself.

I don’t know about you, but I have been needing more time to read, and – since my days are currently split between working on my business and taking care of my family – I’m hoping to do some light reading this summer.

Summer vacations always seem to be the best time to immerse myself in a good book, especially if I haven’t been able to do it in a long time. So, to prepare for those long car rides and trips to the beach, I’ve gathered together a list of the top ten books I’m looking forward to reading this summer. Whether involving a bit of romance, drama, family feud, self discovery, or travel, these reads seem like perfect additions to your carry ons and beach bags.

1) People We Meet On Vacation by Emily Henry

This book seems like the perfect romance to read on a summer’s day! The story focuses on Alex and Poppy, two very different people who became unlikely friends while in college; however, during one of their annual vacations their friendship takes a rocky turn and you have to wonder – will they make-up or will this vacation officially be their last?

2) The Jetsetters by Amanda Eyre Ward

This novel just might take us on a vacation of our own with the Perkins family as they set sail on a cruise from Athens to Rome to Barcelona and on. But, it’s during this family cruise trip that Charlotte and her four adult children will have to decide whether or not they want to open up and work through the baggage they’ve all been carrying.

3) Such a Fun Age by Kiley Reid

“Such a Fun Age” seems like a breezy read with a big heart. Touching on issues of race and privilege, the main characters Alix and Emira are taken on a path where they both must work through the difficulties of adulthood and learn a fuller meaning of the word “family.”

4) Tokyo Ever After by Emiko Jean

This contemporary fairy tale is the story of Izzy Tanaka, a Japanese American girl who finds out that her father is the Crown Prince of Japan. Unsure of which path to take, Izzy is stuck wondering if she’s good enough to be the princess of Japan or if she’s better off going back to California. This book reminds me of “The Princess Diaries,” so it’s bound to be a fun read!

5) The Chicken Sisters by KJ Dell’Antonia

Perfect for the beach or a summer book club, “The Chicken Sisters” is about two different families, their restaurants, and which family deserves to have their chicken named “The Best in Kansas.” A book that focuses on the importance of family and heritage by adding a little bit of fun and competition is sure to keep the reader hooked.

6) The Vacationers by Emma Straub

When The Post family goes on a two-week trip with their extended family and friends, nothing goes according to plan as secrets start to come to the surface, old wounds are opened, and forgotten rivalries pick up where they left off. I’m not sure I’d want to be on that trip, but who doesn’t love a good-hearted story with a bit of drama?

7) Evvie Drake Starts Over by Linda Holmes

Another great romance to grab before heading to the beach, “Evvie Drake Starts Over” focuses on love, loss, forgiveness, and starting over – even when it’s hard.

8) Summer of ‘69 by Elin Hildebrand

I love a good book that brings with it all of the nostalgia of the past, and this one sounds especially fun! Filled with so many pop culture and historical references from 1969, this coming-of-age story seems like the perfect summer read.

9) Beach Read by Emily Henry

Of course when talking about beach reads, this book had to be added to the list! In this story, two authors – Augustus and January – are both suffering from writer’s block. So, to try and help encourage their creativity, they challenge each other to write a book like they’ve never written before…while doing their best to not fall in love.

10) Rebecca by Daphne Du Maurier

“Rebecca” is one of those classic books that seems perfect to take on any trip. More of a mystery than a love story, it begins in Monte Carlo where the main character (whose name is never mentioned), is quickly swept off her feet by widower Maxim de Winter. When she moves in with her new husband, she feels the weight of his late wife’s legacy and she wonders if she’ll be able to find a release from Rebecca’s hold.

I’m looking forward to grabbing a good book or two and relaxing by the water with my family this summer. And I hope you’re able to grab one of these books and make more time to read, too!

Friday Favorites | Five Summer Clothing Essentials to Find on Amazon Fashion

amazon.jpg

Disclosure: This post may contain affiliate links that I may earn a small commission from, at no additional cost to you. I only recommend products I would or have used myself.

Happy Friday! I don’t know about you, but summer is one of my favorite times of the year! I get to spend more time with my family as well as taking some extra time on the beach in Michigan relaxing and being inspired. I especially love it when I get to take it all in while feeling comfy in my clothes during those warm summer days.

Often when I’m looking for simple summer clothing items to add to my wardrobe or if I’m doing some last-minute prepping for a vacation, I’ll do a little bit of shopping on Amazon to look for those summer wardrobe staples. So, this Friday I’ll be sharing with you my five favorite basic summer clothing essentials to find on Amazon Fashion.

1) Tee shirts

Tee shirts are a basic item that we often need more of than what we actually have on hand. Grabbing a couple of these basic tees – in white or grey – will give you a simple and easy top option for a busy morning or a walk on the beach. But! The best part about a basic tee is that you can dress it up by adding a kimono, cardigan, or jean jacket into the mix.

2) Button-down Blouses

A comfy, casual blouse is another one of my favorite summer clothing essentials to search for on Amazon. As another multifunctional top option, all different types and colors of blouses are great to dress up and use to play with your outfits. And! They’re not only great for summer, but they can be worn all year round!

3) Dresses

You can find so many cute and stylish dresses on Amazon that won’t break the bank, and I especially love it when I find a comfy and classy maxi-dress that I might need for a last-minute event or to take with me on a trip.

4) Skirts

Skirts are another good, fashionable item that you can find on Amazon to get your wardrobe ready for summer. There are so many styles to choose from, and you can pretty much dress any skirt up with a pretty blouse or down with a basic tee.

5) Sandals

Sandals are a summer must-have! They’re so easy to add to any summer outfit, whether you’re wearing shorts and a tee shirt, a comfy dress, or just your bathing suit, you can find a variety of sandals on Amazon to search and pick through for any occasion!

How to Style a Bathroom Bar Cart

Disclosure: This post may contain affiliate links that I may earn a small commission from, at no additional cost to you. I only recommend products I would or have used myself.

One of my favorite ways to elevate a space is by adding a beautiful bar cart – and the bathroom is no exception! Having a bar cart in your bathroom is such a great way to organize and stylishly store those items that you’d normally keep in a cabinet or on a crowded shelf. But, deciding what and how to place those items on your cart might not be so easy, so here are some basic tips to help you purposefully place and style a few of your favorite things on your bathroom bar cart.

Top Shelf

  • The best way to use the top shelf is to make it the place where you put your prettiest items! I love to lay out my favorite perfumes, hair care and skin care products. You can even help keep things organized by placing them on a pretty tray. Add a jar of your favorite bath salts with a scoop for easy use or a basket of your favorite bath bombs.

  • The top shelf can also be a place for a good smelling candle or oil diffuser, as well as a box of tissue (dressed up with a pretty cover, of course). A classic, gold dish filled with some of your favorite pieces of jewelry or a piece of art will help to dress up your cart.

  • It’s always a must to add a flower or two to your bathroom – whether real or fake – just make sure to place them in a beautiful vase to help polish off your top shelf styling.

Bottom Shelf

  • The bottom shelf is where you can store your less decorative items. Use this space to keep extra towels and washcloths for guests, or to stock other bath accoutrements such as extra hand soap and body wash, toilet paper, or shampoo and conditioner. Placing these items in separate small baskets can help better organize your bottom shelf storage.

Lastly, Instead of art you can add a mirror over your bathroom bar cart and then make use of the handle by hanging an extra hand towel on it, and your bar cart styling is complete!

When styling your bar cart for any room or any occasion, remember to keep it simple and have fun! Change out your items often to refresh your bar cart style and don’t forget to let it inspire your own design.

This Friday, I’ll be sharing some of my favorite finds in fashion to help you refresh your spring wardrobe! I’ve found so many different kinds of cute clothing, shoes, and accessories that are perfect to help elevate and liven up your closet.

Starting with my most favorite finds – if you know me, then you know my choice color to wear is any and all things blue, and I’m loving this blue floral print dress as well as this white and blue embroidered collared blouse. Pair either one with this jute basket bag and these braided strap sandals for that perfect summer-ready look. Another most favorite of mine is this eyelet ruffle wrap top, it looks so cute on and you can keep it classic when you wear it with these pearl and white gold hoop earrings.

Snag this airy and light yellow-striped oversized tee and this floral embroidered tee to add a couple of comfier options to your closet, and make either one into an outfit with a new pair of balsam washed jean shorts. This white cotton shirt-dress is a good choice if you wanna dress up your comfy look.

Add a touch of pink to your wardrobe with this paisley ruffle top or these floral bow slide sandals. And, if you’re looking to continue spicing your spring style up with more color, there are so many fun and beautiful options in green! Like this aqua green checked dress, this sage eyelet sleeved top, or this green lotus-print belted maxi dress.

Any and all of these new favorites of mine would look great with either these gold french twist large hoop earrings or these classic gold hoop earrings! And my favorite accessory of the day is this crocheted raffia fringe clutch which is the perfect clutch for any outfit and any occasion.

Lastly, get ready for summer with a new swimsuit! This green-striped one-piece swimsuit is padded and flattering, and you can use a long and flowy caftan as a coverup at the pool or on the beach.

Friday Favorites | Kitchen Refresh

Disclosure: This post may contain affiliate links that I may earn a small commission from, at no additional cost to you. I only recommend products I would or have used myself.

In need of a kitchen refresh? I’ve got you covered! One of my favorite things to do is to cook for my family and spend time in the kitchen, so when I feel the need to give my kitchen space a mini-facial I’ll shop around to find new items to implement whether it’s for practical use, decoration, or both! Here are some of my favorites to help give you some kitchen refresh ideas.

When it comes to finding the right utensils and cookware for your kitchen, it’s always best to find items that are both useful and beautiful so they can serve more than one purpose. For instance, this set of porcelain blue lithograph printed spice jars, this metal oval bread box, this white porcelain butter dish, or these olive oil bottles are all great options to upgrade your storage, but they’re also beautifully designed, and will help add a clean and clutter-free look.

A new white Smeg 2-slice toaster and a white KitchenAid artisan stand mixer pair well together next to each other on your counter. Add these beautiful white-handled Cuisinart knives and this gourmet 7-quart slow cooker to help you prep for those big dinners you want to have, even on your busiest of days.

Upgrade your kitchen table with this pretty blue poppy patterned tablecloth and use these bamboo porcelain dinner plates along with this set of white and blue-striped kitchen towels to prep for your dinner guests. And, as it gets closer to dining time, finish your kitchen table set up with this bamboo spun serving bowl and this gorgeous square marble salt bowl with a brass spoon.

A new blue floral oven mitt set, white ceramic porcelain colander, or this handmade glazed brush and ceramic dish pot set are also good additions to help enhance your kitchen space while also being useful tools. And, once dinner is all done, use this set of OXO smart seal plastic containers to store your leftovers in or send friends home with extras.

Lastly, treat yourself to a new apron for all of your hard work! My current favorite is this beige gingham checked linen-blend apron.

When you’re in love with your home and nowhere near ready to leave it, it’s nice to be able to make an old space feel new again. Updating your everyday kitchen tools and supplies can often help guide you to working through your mini-home makeover!

Simple Bathroom Refresh

Friday Favorites | Bathroom Refresh - Margaret of York.JPG

Disclosure: This post may contain affiliate links that I may earn a small commission from, at no additional cost to you. I only recommend products I would or have used myself.

It’s Friday and we’re working our way through our home refresh! Last week we started our home refresh journey with the living room and bedroom, and this weekend we’ll be continuing our work in the bathroom! Here are some of my favorites to help inspire your own bathroom refresh ideas.

Starting with the bath, update your shower curtain with this blue french tassel shower curtain as well as a white channel bath rug. Add this light blue chippendale étagère for stylish storage, like a place to keep these navy striped bath towels for family and guests.

To give your bathroom some down-to-earth dimension, hang this beautiful rattan wrapped wall mirror above your sink and dress up your corner with this cute hand-braided hyacinth stool. This Compagnie De Provence sweet almond-scented hand soap and a new beach house sea and dune scented candle are great additions to keep you and your bathroom smelling fresh!

Lastly, it’s ALWAYS a must to treat yourself after taking care of your home and family, and you can’t go wrong with this luxurious bathrobe. You deserve it!

When you’re in love with your home and nowhere near ready to leave it, it’s nice to be able to make an old space feel new again. Updating your shower curtain, switching out your mirror, or replacing your hand soap are small changes that can help guide you to working through your mini-home makeover!

Does your home need a little refresher? If so, let me be the first to say that I completely understand! Even if you’re happy with your home, sometimes it’s nice to give it a little update by switching out old accessories for new accents, and knowing where to start can be half of the battle. For my next three Friday Favorites, I’ll be sharing some of my favorite items to help guide your home refresh.

This Friday we’ll start by refreshing the living room and bedroom!

If you’re looking to change out old furniture, this cream-colored flutter slipcover sofa is a beautiful addition to your space, and add a new blue-striped ottoman to rest your feet on to zhuzh up your living room even more. Grab a gorgeous handwoven hyacinth coffee table or a rattan pine isle console table to add texture and a natural accent, and don’t forget to dress your new table up with your favorite coffee table book (or two!). One of my favorites is  “Entertaining Beautifully” by Aerin Lauder.

When refreshing your bedroom, it’s always good to start with your beloved bed! A new bed set like this blue patterned duvet cover set is one of the best ways to add a new dimension and feel to a bedroom. Add a patterned square back for your bed (my favorite is the delft chintz!) and exchange your dresser for a classic white six-drawer dresser and your bedroom will feel like a whole new room!

When you’re in love with your home and nowhere near ready to leave it, it’s nice to be able to make an old space feel new again. Adding a new chair or throw pillow or a new painting above a new bookshelf is the best way to find what feels good to freshen up your space, and can often help guide you to working through your mini-home makeover!

Friday Favorites | Spring Cycling Classics

It’s the spring cycling season, and as the weather in our little town continues to serve us bright, blue skies and sunshine, we’re continuing to spend our time outdoors riding our bikes! If you’re doing the same but looking to upgrade your bike or a bike basket, here are some of my favorite spring cycling classics to help you enhance your biking adventures.

My sister and I have this classic Beaumont 7-Speed City Bike and we LOVE it! It is such a comfortable and smooth ride, and being able to switch gears between seven different speeds makes it easy to ride it anywhere around town. This Dutch-style Public C7 city bike is another take on a classic-looking 7-speed bicycle that I love.

If you have a child needing a new bicycle for spring cycling, take a look at this Beaumont Mini Kids’ Bike with training wheels. It is such an adorable take on the adult version, and if you snatch it up along with that Beaumont 7-Speed, you and your little one could be twinning on your rides together!

Add a vintage-style handmade rattan basket to the front of your bike or this Riviera rattan and navy plastic woven basket for a fresh take on a classic bicycle basket — either are great to give you that much needed storage in the front. If you’re in need of a rear cargo basket for help when shopping or grabbing groceries, or extra storage for picnics, add this woven rattan nantucket cargo basket to the back of your bike, as well.

And, if you’re needing something to help you carry your favorite beverage from your local coffee shop around, a leather cup holder would be perfect for the job!

Last, but definitely not least, you have to make sure to bring the tunes with you on your bike rides. This portable bluetooth speaker is the perfect addition to complete your upgrade, fitting snugly on your handlebars, and it’s sure to keep you moving and grooving while you’re cycling along!

Friday Favorites | Spring Home Decor

It’s finally Friday! And if you’re like me you’re probably planning on doing a little bit of re-decorating this weekend, so here are some of my favorite finds to help give you ideas on how to freshen and dress up your home.

Let’s start with the kitchen and dining room! This spring is all about texture, and adding texture to any room – including your kitchen – can help really liven it up. Add this set of mini seagrass baskets to hold utensils or a couple of pretty plants and bring on the pastels with these pistachio-colored kitchenaid mixing bowls.

Update your dining room with this fabulous vera pedestal dining table, a modernist design that plays with geometric shapes as its base. Handwoven raffia placemats, this ceramic cabbage leaf bowl, and this cane and glass food dome will help beautify your table at dinner time. And a large abaca rope chandelier not only adds that texture we’re so craving this spring, but really helps to illuminate your dining area.

Moving to the living room — I am in love with this gorgeous coconut-beaded mirror! And this white and brass rattan coffee table is a great addition to include a bit of texture. Add a new slatted wooden accent chair, dressed with a tassel throw blanket and this arles-designed pillow cover, and seat it next to a wicker side table to add a newly natural glow to any living room corner. Place this beautiful Malibu Beach print on your wall and this arena sculpture set on any flat surface in your living room to help elevate your space.

And let’s not forget about the bedroom as we’re redecorating our home! One of the easiest ways to refresh your bedroom is with a talc linen headboard and new bedding — (I suggest this scallop-edged cotton baywood quilt and shams!) Lastly, add more texture to your bedroom with a handmade scallop jute rug and a raffia nightstand.

As we move outdoors we’re adding a weather-friendly springwood hanging daybed as well as this white side table to our porch so we’ll be able to take advantage of those lovely spring and summer days! We’re also using this rattan-crafted wine and bread basket for all of our outdoor adventures this year!

It’s officially April and, if you’re in Central Illinois, we’re walking into this month looking forward to Sunny skies and highs of 75! Our wardrobe is adapting to the warmer weather and we’re dressing down in…yes, you guessed it…all of the flowy dresses, like a pink puff sleeve babydoll dress, as well as fun and breezy blouses like this basic, white puff sleeve blouse. And floral patterns, whether printed or embroidered, are most certainly a must for this spring!

When the weather gets warmer and the sun gets bluer, I really love finding an outfit that’s not only comfortable and easygoing, but also is dressy enough for me to wear when dealing with all aspects of my day-to-day life. From running errands to running to a photoshoot and onto my next meeting all right before picking my kid’s up from school, cool and comfy dresses and blouses are the mainstay of my spring attire.

Dresses have really started to take up space in my wardrobe. One of my favorite finds is this beautiful floral printed v-neck midi dress which really plays with all of the senses. But if patterns aren’t your preference, a simple white tie shoulder dress is also an easy-breezy piece to dress up with jewelry and a colorful cardigan, and wear out and about.

But patterns are really pulling out all of the stops this spring as we see more play with florals, like on this oh so colorful patchwork floral puff-sleeve top or this cute billowy sleeve festival top. You can also add a gingham check-patterned midi dress or blouse to your closet if you want to play with a pattern other than florals.

Embroidered pieces can also be really fun to add to your spring style because they not only let you experiment with patterns, but textures as well. I love the embroidery on this white v-neck dress, this gorgeous blue and white floral blouse, and this springy white ruffle sleeve blouse.

And, since you already know my love for all things blue, I’ve found various blue dresses that can help inspire so many diverse looks! This blue marigold floral printed dress along with this classic blue and white striped Victoria-styled dress are two new maxi-dress favorites of mine. And this light and flowy pastel blue knee-length dress is perfect for those warmer spring days at the pool or the beach.

Add a little bit of color and texture to your outfit from toe-to-head with a pair of pastel pink suede wicker-wrapped heeled sandals or pink flat leather slide sandals, or even play up your dressed down look with a pearl studded ring.

End your day in a blue heart-printed sleep set that’s perfect for spring and summer nights, and wake up and do it all over again! And, if you need more inspiration when planning out your next day’s outfit check out my Favorite Spring Fashion Must-Haves!
