How lucky we are to live in a town full of small businesses! The last several years many community members have taken a leap of faith and opened shops in and around the heart of our community! Shopping local has always been important to me but this year it is even more important to nurture locally owned businesses. Supporting small means supporting someone’s dream and when you purchase from a locally owned business more money is kept in the community!

I am so thankful for the adorable local shops we have here in our town and wanted to be able to share some of my favorite items with you! Small Business Saturday is looking a little different this year and if you are not comfortable getting out and about you can shop from many of these retailer’s websites!

Whether it’s a “Happy Box” from Homegirls Boutique, a bouquet of fresh flowers from A Bloom Bar, or a gift card for a facial from LB Beauty I guarantee you can check every box for family and friends locally! There are gift cards to be purchased or coffee beans for the coffee lover from Soap Co. and Elm City Roastery, a yoga pass, crystal phone holders and gear from Jax Yoga, beautiful wreaths crafted by Kate Armstrong Farms, or sustainably made Beeswax Wraps from Nothing Fancy Supply. You can find all of the top selling books and cookbooks at Our Town Books as well! I am so excited to share this guide with you and help you support local businesses!

Being cozy in our home: That’s all we really wanted this year. Maybe dressing up and fixing a delicious dinner, playing Nancy Meyer’s playlist on Spotify with a glass of red wine, and lighting a good candle . That is how I found joy this past year. Putting on cozy pajamas at night and climbing into crisp clean sheets and flipping through a beautiful coffee table book. These are all the little comforts of home that we had taken for granted and they definitely inspired my gift guide for her this year! Some of these items are tried and true and many are on my wishlist! No matter what type of woman; whether its the working girl, the home body, or the adventurer: there is something here for everyone! One of my favorite parts of holiday prep is choosing my gift wrap! I love picking beautiful papers and mixing patterns and colors under the tree. I like to pick a color scheme (usually something that coordinates with our home) and then beautiful ribbons in a variety of textures. I love velvet ribbons and like to use them not only on packages but also throughout my holiday decor. I also think gift tags are a really fun way to make the package even more personal! You can have fun with these! Here is a round up of non traditional Holiday colors that I find so soothing!

Friday Feature with Layla Grayce

Fall Front Porch

This year more than ever I was ready for the transition to Fall. I love summer with all my heart but I think we all need the change of seasons to keep things moving amidst the pandemic. So when the temps dropped in Central Illinois I decided to go ahead and do the fall porch! Here is how I put mine together:

Getting started you will need pots, mums, and pumpkins. I really like to plop my mums down into my pots if I am able without replanting them. This is easy to do but don’t forget to water them! Nobody wants to see dead mums on your Fall porch!

Over the years I have invested in good quality terra cotta pots. You can get these at a local hardware store or purchase them online. Why terra cotta? I love the color, it brings in warmth and I just find them to be classic! I also love to mix in white textured pots and woven baskets. If you are using a basket as a planter it is important to get a plastic lining for the bottom so you don’t totally destroy your basket. These can be found in the garden section at your local hardware store. You may need to cut it to fit!

When purchasing pumpkins I love to buy from a local patch or farmer. This year I went with subtle colors. I love the pale greens, creams, and peach colors. They are soft yet still beautiful!

I started with my larger pots up top and layered in the smaller pots and pumpkins. It was easiest to place the pots first and then fill in with the pumpkins to create a layered feel. I played around until I felt like the shades of pumpkins were in the right place!

This will stay on my steps through Thanksgiving until we are ready for Holiday decor! I love looking out my office window at this arrangement! Happy Styling!

A welcoming entry

This beach house entry is such a happy space full of texture, pattern, and beautiful prints. There are many elements that make this space so inviting so let’s get down to it.

Instead of leaving the drywall painted above the millwork I found this to be a good opportunity to bring in added texture with a navy grasscloth paper. Because the millwork is bright white we were able to use a dark navy on the walls without the space feeling heavy and dark. The light floors also help with this.

I brought in a woven bench for more texture and this provides a space to sit and take off your shoes. I placed an indoor/outdoor rug under the bench for a layered, cozy feel. I then added in throw pillows in different patterns and textures for an additional layer of comfort.

One of my favorite aspects of this entry is the gallery grid wall above. We used prints from Sara Fitz Studio and they really told the story of this home and the family that spent their summers here. You have the option of purchasing these framed or not and we chose to have them framed for a uniform look. I hung these 2 inches apart equally to create a grid like pattern. I love the navy grasscloth popping through between frames.
