How to Style Bookshelves

If you know me at all you know that I love styling. Bookshelves happen to be one of my

favorite things to style. Here are a few simple tips to help you achieve the shelf of your

dreams.

1. Clear out the clutter! Remove everything from your existing bookshelves! It is always best

to start with a clean slate. There is nothing like a blank canvas!

2. Gather together all of the objects you want to use in your shelves. I love to use books,

vases, glass beads, picture frames, and objects of interest when styling shelves. Baskets and

boxes are also great to hide items.

3. Start with the larger items such as books, baskets and vases. I love to stack books vertically

and horizontally. Coffee table books are great for this! (hint: you can buy affordable used

coffee table books on amazon)

4. Fill in the spaces in between with smaller items. Layer glass beads on top of book stacks or

boxes. Group items in 3’s or odd numbers for interest.

5. For a collected look mix old with new, shiny with dull, color with neutral! This keeps your

shelves from looking too one note!

Don’t forget to step back every now and then and check your shelves to make sure they flow!
