How To Make Your House Smell Good Naturally

How To Make Your House Smell Good Naturally

Creating a home that smells good is one of the easiest and most underrated ways to elevate the feel of your home. A fresh-smelling house feels much more inviting to guests, makes a positive first impression, and can even boost your own mood.

But, while many people turn to artificial air fresheners or strongly scented candles to achieve this effect, these solutions aren’t as good as they seem. Artificial scents are known for containing chemicals that can irritate the lungs, trigger allergies, and even disrupt hormones.

That’s why I’m sharing this guide on how to keep your house smelling good naturally. These methods are healthier and safer, but also highly effective. So, if you’re ready to ditch synthetic fragrances for good and embrace healthier alternatives, keep reading!

How To Make Your House Smell Good Naturally

This post will be your go-to guide for safe, natural, and sustainable ways to say goodbye to bad odors and fill your home with scents that smell great. Making your house smell good naturally has never been easier with these tips. Whether you’re dealing with lingering odors or just want your home to smell fresh every day, this post has got you covered!

What Makes Your House Smell Good All The Time?

Baking Soda

Baking soda is a miracle worker. In my opinion, it should be in every home simply because of how universal it is. Baking soda is ideal for neutralizing bad odors, especially in places like closets, bathrooms, and refrigerators. It doesn’t have a strong scent itself, but it gets rid of lingering odors to help your space smell fresh naturally. Just place an open container of baking soda where odors tend to build up (such as in your fridge or in the bathroom) or sprinkle it on carpeted areas.

White Vinegar

White vinegar is yet another godsend when it comes to universal items in your home. It’s great for cleaning up grime and neutralizing any bad odors that are making your home smell less than ideal. It’s cost-effective, easy to find, and easy to use. Does it get much better than that?

Essential Oils

Essential oils like lavender, lemon, eucalyptus and peppermint offer a nice range of natural fragrance options. Add just a few drops in a diffuser or spray bottle with water and spritz it around your home. Essential oils don’t just smell good they can also have calming or energizing effects.

Simmering Pot

Also known as stovetop potpourri, a simmering pot is a great way to bring inviting scents into your home. With citrus peels, cinnamon sticks, and more, it’s a great way to add a seasonal scent to your home.

Fresh Plants/Herbs

Live plants like rosemary, eucalyptus, and basil can give off a very clean, subtle scent while also purifying the air. Place them in open spaces like kitchens, bathrooms, or living rooms to make your home smell fresh.

Scented Candles

If you love the ambience of candles, you don’t have to say goodbye to them completely. Simply opt for those made from soy, coconut, or beeswax with natural essential oils instead of synthetic fragrances. These provide a pleasant yet subtle scent without the added health risks that are associated with paraffin or heavily perfumed candles.

Fresh Flowers

There’s nothing more beautiful than fresh flowers in your home especially when they smell good, too! I adore the smell of fresh flowers and how they can add a pop of color and a sweet scent wherever you place them. There’s nothing quite like it; they add elegance, fragrance, and a touch of nature indoors.

How To Make Your House Smell Good Naturally

fresh flowers at home

Open up the windows.

One of the easiest and most effective things you can do to remove stale air in your home and bring in a fresh scent is to open the windows. Even just 10 minutes of open window time a day can dramatically improve the air quality in your home. Plus, I find it so peaceful and relaxing feeling the cool breeze sweep through. It almost feels like it washes out any bad energy or negativity, like a total reset at the end of each day.

Use a spray bottle or diffuser with essential oils.

Another great way to help your house smell good naturally is to mix some water and a few drops of your favorite essential oil in a spray bottle for a quick and easy room refresh. Glass bottles are much better for this as they preserve the smell of the spray for longer and you can also refill them as needed. This DIY air freshener is perfect for eliminating bad odors and leaving a nice, subtle scent behind.

Clean with hot water and vinegar.

Hot water and vinegar is a natural staple in my home for how well it cleans and removes any odors. I just mix hot water with a tablespoon or two of white vinegar to clean surfaces like countertops, floors, and sinks. It’s definitely my go-to for when the house needs a quick wipe down at the end of the day.

Simmer a slow cooker potpourri.

This one is an elite option for making your home smell delicious. I like to place herbs, citrus peels, and even some essential oils mixed with water in a slow cooker and set it to low. It gives such a warm, homely feel thanks to all of the seasonal smells. Keeping it on a warm, low setting acts like a slow-release fragrance and can keep your home smelling amazing all day.

Deodorize carpets with baking soda.

Sick of chemical-filled, overpowering carpet deodorizer? Me too! Simply sprinkle some baking soda onto your carpets, let it sit for 15 to 30 minutes, and then vacuum it up. This is one of my favorite ways to tackle any residual carpet smells.

Add in subtle scents with sachets.

If you’re looking for a more subtle, clean smell that lingers, small sachets filled with dried lavender, rosemary, or cedar chips in drawers, closets, and under pillows are a great idea. These subtle scent sachets will slowly release fragrance over time and help to keep your home and everything in it smelling pleasant.

Eliminate any moisture.

If you’re consistently struggling with odors in your home, it’s important to figure out what may be causing it. Damp areas such as basements, bathrooms, or closets can harbor mildew and cause bad odors. Use a dehumidifier or moisture-absorbing crystals to tackle these areas head-on.

Wash your linens frequently.

Another good tip is to make sure that you wash your linens often. Of course, we all know to wash our bedding regularly, but we often overlook other linen materials throughout the home such as curtains, pillows, and upholstery. These types of things can trap lingering odors, making your home smell. Wash them regularly with a natural detergent and add a few drops of essential oils during the rinse cycle for a more crisp freshness.

Air out cushions and rugs.

Much like linens, cushions and rugs can trap smells. Make sure you take your cushions, rugs, and heavy blankets outside to air out occasionally. Sunlight and fresh air work wonders in reviving these items and getting rid of any stale smells.

Have your house smelling as lovely as it looks with these easy tips!

How to Wear a Sweater Over a Dress

When it comes to personal style, it’s always exciting to find new ways to breathe life into your favorite pieces. One of my favorite styling tricks is wearing a sweater over a dress. This simple yet effective combination not only keeps you cozy but also adds a whole new dimension to your outfit, making your wardrobe more versatile. However, finding the perfect pair of sweater and dress can sometimes feel a bit tricky. The right choices can elevate your look, while the wrong ones can leave you feeling mismatched. That’s why I’m excited to share this guide on how to successfully wear a sweater over a dress, helping you master this chic trend effortlessly! Let’s dive in!

How To Wear A Sweater Over A Dress

Wearing a sweater over a dress is a stylish choice that proves especially great during seasonal transitions. As temperatures fluctuate between chilly mornings and warmer afternoons, this layering technique offers warmth without sacrificing elegance. However, finding the right sweater to pair with the right dress can be a bit tricky. It’s essential to consider the dress’s silhouette and fabric; for instance, a fitted sweater often complements a flowy midi dress beautifully, while a chunky knit might pair better with a more structured dress. Balancing proportions is key to achieving an effortlessly chic look. When done right, this combination not only enhances your outfit but also provides a timeless appeal that remains fashionable year after year.

Can You Wear A Sweater Over A Dress?

Wearing a sweater over a dress is not only possible but can also be a stylish choice that embraces traditional aesthetics. This layering technique can add warmth and texture, especially during transitional weather. Opt for a fitted or slightly cropped sweater to maintain the dress’s silhouette and avoid overwhelming it. Choosing a classic style, like a cardigan or a pullover in neutral or coordinating colors, can enhance the overall look while keeping it polished. To complete your outfit, consider adding a pair of ankle boots or classic pumps, ensuring that your ensemble remains both comfortable and elegant.

How Do You Wear A Sweater Over A Dress

Layer a Cropped Sweater Over a Maxi Dress

Layering a cropped sweater over a maxi dress creates a beautifully balanced silhouette that flatters any body type. The cropped length defines your waist, while the contrasting textures of a chunky knit and flowing fabric add visual interest. Opt for a neutral-toned sweater to complement vibrant dresses, and accessorize with statement earrings and ankle boots for a chic yet casual look. As temperatures drop, you can easily add a denim or leather jacket for extra warmth. This combination not only revitalizes your favorite dresses but also showcases your style versatility, making the transition from day to night effortlessly chic!

CASUAL POLISH

The sweater makes the outfit feel relaxed and lived-in, while the dress adds a bit of elegance. Together, it’s a mix of cozy and graceful, ideal for a “coastal grandmother” or Nancy Meyers-inspired vibe.

Pair With a Chunky Knit

Wearing a chunky knit sweater over a dress can effortlessly elevate your outfit while adding warmth and texture. To achieve this look, select a sleek, form-fitting dress—perhaps a midi or maxi style—that complements your body shape. Choose a chunky knit sweater in a contrasting color or a neutral tone to create a balanced ensemble. Layer the sweater over the dress, allowing it to drape casually for an effortless vibe. You can leave the sweater unbuttoned or half-tucked to highlight your waistline, which adds dimension to your look. Pair this outfit with ankle boots or stylish sneakers for a chic, relaxed finish. This combination not only keeps you cozy but also introduces an interesting interplay between the sleek silhouette of the dress and the cozy bulk of the knit, making it perfect for transitional seasons or casual outings.

Tied Over The Shoulders

Wearing a sweater draped or knotted over your shoulders instantly adds a touch of effortless sophistication to any outfit. This style references classic preppy fashion while also being practical for layering as the weather changes. It’s the simplest way to carry an extra layer without fully committing to wearing it.

Monochrome Harmony

Layering a sweater over a dress in a monochrome look is effortlessly chic and instantly elevates your outfit. Sticking to one color palette-whether it’s all creams, blacks, or soft neutrals-creates a streamlined, polished style that looks intentional and put together. This look feels fresh and transitional, making it ideal for early spring or early fall.

Cardigan Style

Buttoning the cardigan all the way gives it the look of a top, making the layering feel intentional rather than haphazard. This simple trick enhances the overall appearance, making it look polished and put together. The fitted blue cardigan adds sharpness and structure to the voluminous white dress. This contrast in shapes keeps the look modern and prevents it from feeling overly sweet or flowy.

Layering a sweater over a dress not only adds a stylish twist to your outfit but also keeps you comfortable during unpredictable spring weather. Whether you choose a lightweight knit or a cozy cardigan, this versatile technique allows you to express your personal style effortlessly. So, don’t hesitate to experiment and wear a sweater over your favorite dresses to create chic and cozy looks this season. For more ideas, you can read about my spring wardrobe must-haves!

How to Style Bookshelves

How to Style Bookshelves

If you know me, you understand that I have a passion for styling, and bookshelves are one of my absolute favorites to curate. They offer a unique opportunity to express your personality and enhance your home décor. In this blog post, I’ll share some simple yet effective tips to help you create the bookshelf of your dreams. Whether you’re looking for a cohesive theme, ways to mix heights for visual interest, or ideas for incorporating personal touches, these strategies will inspire you to transform your shelves into a beautiful and inviting focal point in your living space. Let’s dive in!

How To Decorate Bookshelves

How To Decorate Bookshelves

Start With A Blank Slate

Begin by removing all items from your existing bookshelves. This step is essential because it allows you to see exactly how much space you truly have and provides the opportunity to reassess your collection. It is always best to begin with a clean slate. Picture your shelves as a blank canvas, ready to be transformed. This fresh start will not only help you organize your books more effectively but also inspire you to curate a collection that reflects your current tastes and interests. Take your time with this process, as it is the foundation for creating an inviting and functional space for your reading materials. Once you’ve cleared the shelves, you can thoughtfully decide which items to keep, donate, or discard, making way for a more organized and visually appealing bookshelf.

Gather Your Decor

Gather all the objects you want to display on your shelves. I love using books, vases, glass beads, picture frames, and interesting objects when styling shelves. Baskets and boxes are also great for hiding items. Gather all the objects you plan to use for styling your shelves. I enjoy incorporating a variety of items, such as books, vases, glass beads, picture frames, and other interesting decorative pieces. These elements can add character and personality to your shelves. Additionally, using baskets and boxes is an excellent way to conceal items that you don’t want on display, thereby creating a clean and organized look. When arranging your shelves, think about mixing different textures and heights to create visual interest and depth.

Start With The Larger Items

Start with the larger items such as books, baskets, and vases. I love to stack books both vertically and horizontally. Coffee table books are great for this! A visual contrast can be created by mixing horizontal stacks of books with some arranged vertically. This not only adds depth to your arrangement but also keeps it interesting. (Designer Tip: You can buy affordable used coffee table books on Amazon.) Consider adding decorative elements, such as candles or small plants, alongside these stacks to enhance the overall aesthetic.

Fill in the spaces in between with smaller items.

Layer glass beads on top of book stacks or boxes. Group items in 3’s or odd numbers for interest. Incorporate varying heights by adding candlesticks or small vases to create visual contrast. Use a mix of textures, like woven baskets or metallic accents, to add depth to the arrangement. Consider the color palette of the items to ensure they complement each other, creating a cohesive and visually appealing look. Finally, don’t forget to include personal touches, such as framed photos or unique collectibles, to make the display uniquely yours.

Mix Old And New

For a collected look, mix old with new, shiny with dull, and color with neutral! This keeps your shelves from looking too one-note! Additionally, don’t be afraid to incorporate various textures—woven baskets, glass vases, and ceramic pots can all add depth and visual interest. Layering objects at different heights also creates visual interest, and adding some greenery can breathe life into your space. Remember to curate items that tell a story or evoke memories, making your display both personal and inviting.

8 Flower Decoration Ideas to Brighten Any Space

Flower Decoration Ideas

There’s something special about decorating with flowers. It’s one of those simple things that I find instantly shifts the energy of a room. Whether you’re into minimalist styling or more of a maximalist with vases and knick-knacks on every surface, flowers are a classic, natural, and bright way to breathe life into your space.

There are so many creative ways to decorate with flowers, so today I’m sharing a round-up of some of my favorite flower decorating ideas to brighten any space. They’re easy, timeless, and guaranteed to add that just-right feel to your home.

8 Flower Decoration Ideas to Brighten Any Space

Not all blooms are created equal when it comes to decorating. Some are showstoppers, while others prefer a more subtle scene, and some are just there to fill the gaps. Below are some of the most commonly used flowers in arrangements.

Which Flowers Are Used For Decoration Most Often?

Peonies

Peonies Flower Decoration Ideas

When it comes to flowers that make a statement, peonies are hard to beat. They’re full, fluffy, and downright gorgeous. They tend to be seasonal, from late spring to early summer, but when they’re in full bloom, they’re exactly what you want to breathe life into your home. They usually last 5-7 days and open nicely if you buy them when they’re still a little tight.

Hydrangeas

Hydrangeas Flower Decoration Ideas

Hydrangeas are lush, soft, and dreamy flowers that bring impressive volume, making them perfect for filling a large vase. Keep the stems cut at an angle in water, and mist them every so often to help them last for up to 10 days.

Tulips

Tulips spring decor

Tulips are so classic and chic. I like that they continue growing after being cut, so they shift and stretch in the vase. They thrive best when kept away from direct heat or sun, and usually have a 5-7 day lifespan.

Roses

Roses Flower Decoration Ideas

If you have the chance, garden roses make for the most stunning arrangements, and they’re so fragrant. They last about a week, and look great even when only a few are placed together.

Feverfew Daisy

Feverfew Daisy

Feverfew Daisies are some of my favorites to pick up at the grocery or florist. They make a great filler or look beautiful on their own. They are great for decorating because their delicate white petals and bright yellow centers add a cheerful charm to any bouquet or vase. They typically last 5-7 days in a vase.

How To Decorate With Flowers

Here are some of my favorite ways to bring flowers into your home that feel thoughtful and intentional, but are effortless to achieve.

Nightstand Arrangement

How To Decorate With Flowers

There’s something quite intimate about waking up next to fresh flowers. A small vase with just a few roses or ranunculus can make your bedroom feel calm and curated. Keep it petite, as too many stems can feel crowded in such a small space. I prefer neutral tones in this space, so there’s no competition with your bedding or lighting.

Kitchen Sink Boost

Kitchen Sink floral decor

This is one of my favorite “feel good” rituals: placing a jar of flowers by the kitchen sink. It’s such a simple mood boost in the kitchen, even while doing the most unglamorous task like dishes. Try tulips here, but anything cheerful and bright will work. And, since you’re so close to a water source, it’s easy to top up the vase every day.

Statement Entryway Arrangement

Statement Entryway Arrangement

Your entryway is the first impression of your home, so why not make it beautiful? A large ceramic vase with hydrangeas or peonies can create a warm yet elevated look. Pair it with a candle and tray for keys and accessories to make it functional and stylish.

Layered Coffee Table Look

Layered Coffee Table Look

Coffee tables are perfect for low, wide flower arrangements. Use a mix of garden roses and leafy stems or some closely trimmed hydrangeas in a wide vase. Keep it loose; nothing too structured. If you want to take it further, check out how to style coffee table books and layer them with your vase for a designer look.

Bud Vases on Open Shelves

Bud Vases on Open Shelves

Line up three or four small bud vases on a floating shelf or windowsill, each with only a single bloom. It’s simple and clean, perfect for a minimalist vibe. Go for flowers with personality, like a single peony in each vase or something brighter to add a pop of color to the space.

Bathroom Vanity Touch

Bathroom Vanity Touch

Flowers in the bathroom can feel like a secret luxury. A tiny flower arrangement of a few roses in a ceramic vase is all you need. I love this for guest bathrooms. It feels thoughtful, even if it only took two minutes.

Dining Table Centerpiece

Dining Table Centerpiece Flower Decoration Ideas

I think flowers make for the nicest dining table centerpiece. Here, you can play with one big arrangement of mixed textures and heights. This brings intention to the space, perfect for nice dinner occasions or even brunch.

Mantelpiece Florals

Mantelpiece Florals Flower Decoration Ideas

The mantel is a place most people forget, but it’s the perfect platform. Use a mix of dried and fresh flowers, so you’re not swapping them out constantly. You can go with whatever feels right here! The stage is yours!

Soften your space with beautiful flower decorations!

Flowers are so much more than just floral decor. They’re an invitation to slow down, enjoy the little moments, and immerse yourself in the beauty of nature. They turn areas in your home into something softer, warmer, and more alive. Whether it’s a single stem or a full-on arrangement, adding flowers in your home is about creating beauty in the everyday.

8 Spring Bedroom Decor Ideas

Spring Bedroom Decor Ideas

As spring approaches, I find myself eager to refresh my home decor, and one of the best places to start is undoubtedly the bedroom. We spend a significant amount of time in this space, so why not infuse it with the vibrant and cheerful essence of the season? By inviting a spring vibe into our bedrooms, we can brighten our mood and transform the room into a more welcoming and comforting environment. To inspire your decorating journey, I’m excited to share a roundup of spring bedroom decor ideas that you can easily incorporate into your own space!

8 Spring Bedroom Decor Ideas

1. Layer Soft Patterns in Pastels

Layer Soft Patterns in Pastels

Incorporate subtle patterns like pinstripes, florals, and gingham in soft shades of blue, green, and white. These calming colors can create a serene atmosphere in your space. Combine bedding with printed wallpaper or headboards for a cohesive, layered look that adds depth and interest. To enhance the overall aesthetic, consider using complementary accent pieces, such as throw pillows and blankets, which can further unify the design. Adding soft textures like plush throws or woven baskets can also create a warm and inviting environment.

2. Use Natural Textures

Natural Textures Spring Bedroom Decor Ideas

Incorporate woven elements such as rattan or cane nightstands, or wicker accessories, to bring warmth and texture that are perfect for spring’s organic vibe. Consider layering these materials with soft, natural fabrics like linen or cotton in your bedding and curtains to enhance the inviting atmosphere. Additionally, adding potted plants or fresh flowers can complement the woven textures and create a lively, rejuvenating space. Mixing in light-colored woods or pastel accents will also help to maintain a fresh and airy feel throughout the room, embracing the essence of spring.

3. Incorporate Fresh Florals

Fresh Florals Spring Bedroom Decor Ideas

Style bedside tables with a small vase of fresh cut flowers or faux arrangements in white or soft pastel tones. It instantly brightens up the room and brings the season inside. Fresh flowers not only enhance the aesthetic of your space but also have a positive impact on your well-being. Studies have shown that having flowers in your home can elevate your mood, reduce stress, and create a feeling of calm. Their vibrant colors and natural beauty can uplift your spirit and promote a healthier, more joyful environment. So, whether it’s a simple bouquet or a more elaborate arrangement, incorporating fresh flowers can be a delightful and beneficial addition to your decor.

4. Add a Statement Lamp

Statement Lamp

Features a unique lamp with a striped ceramic body, a woven base, or a glossy pastel finish. Use this as an opportunity to introduce color or texture. This lamp can serve as a statement piece in any room, drawing attention while complementing your overall decor. Consider pairing it with neutral furnishings to allow its design to shine, or use it to enhance a vibrant color palette. Whether placed on a side table, desk, or shelf, it adds a touch of personality and warmth to the space, making it not just a source of light, but also a conversation starter. Experiment with different light bulbs to create varying moods, from soft and cozy to bright and energizing.

5. Accent with Coastal Books & Decor

Coastal Books & Decor

For a breezy, casual luxe look, stack coffee table books with beachy or floral themes. Pair them with a small dish, candle, or coral accent on the nightstand. To enhance the coastal vibe, consider adding a soft, textured runner underneath the stack or incorporate a few seashells or driftwood pieces for a more natural touch. A delicate vase with fresh flowers can also bring a pop of color and life to the arrangement, making the space feel inviting and warm. Don’t forget to include a cozy throw blanket draped over a nearby chair for those relaxed evenings by the beach.

6. Bring in a Pop of Blue

Pop of Blue Spring Bedroom Decor Ideas

Incorporate blue elements into your space through bedding, a vase, wallpaper, or a lampshade. Soft blue linens and accessories beautifully ground the light tones while adding a calming atmosphere. Consider layering different shades of blue to create depth and enhance the overall aesthetic of the room.  To further enrich the ambiance, pair blue with complementary colors like soft grays, crisp whites, or even hints of warm gold or brass accents. This combination can bring a sophisticated touch to your decor. Introducing natural textures, such as wicker or wood, can also create a warm contrast against the coolness of blue. Additionally, incorporating plants can add vibrant greenery, softening the look while promoting a serene environment. Don’t forget to play with patterns; striped or floral designs can add visual interest and seamlessly tie in the blue elements into your decor.

7. Use Crisp White Bedding as a Base

White Bedding as a Base

Keep the bed feeling fresh and hotel-like with white sheets and duvets, then layer in color and pattern through shams and throws. Add a plush weighted blanket for extra comfort and warmth, and consider incorporating a unique headboard or large wall art to create a focal point in the room. Finally, finish off the look with neatly arranged accent pillows in various sizes and textures to invite relaxation and enhance the overall aesthetic.

8. Mix Traditional & Modern Elements

How To Decorate A Bedside Table

Blend tufted or upholstered headboards with clean-lined furniture or pair traditional wallpaper with sleek lamps to keep things timeless but updated. Consider incorporating a mix of textures, such as a plush throw blanket or decorative pillows, to add comfort and personality to the space. Introducing metal accents, like a slim side table or metallic frames, can also enhance the modern feel while complementing classic elements. Don’t forget the importance of lighting; a statement chandelier or carefully placed sconces can elevate the overall ambiance and create a warm, inviting atmosphere.

When To Decorate For Spring

As the days grow longer and the chill of winter begins to fade, the transition into spring is the perfect time to consider refreshing your home decor. Many find that late February to early March is an ideal window to start this seasonal transformation, as it allows you to embrace the vibrant energy of spring before it officially arrives. This period often coincides with the first signs of blooming flowers and warmer weather, inspiring a sense of renewal and creativity. Whether it’s swapping out heavy curtains for lighter fabrics, introducing pastel colors, or incorporating fresh floral arrangements, starting early can help you fully enjoy the beauty and freshness that spring brings.

As you think about your spring home refresh, consider incorporating vibrant throw pillows to add a pop of color and comfort to your bedroom. These little accents can dramatically change the feel of the room and bring your design to life.

These ideas will help you bring your space to life with style and functionality. Let’s go!

8 Outdoor Coffee Table Decor Ideas

Natural Wood Charm

Natural Wood Charm

Natural wood coffee tables are a nice way to bring warmth and an organic touch to your outdoor space. You can pair it with striped floor cushions or pottery for a well-rounded, nature-inspired look. I also like to pop a low-maintenance plant on top for added greenery, paired with just an outdoor tray or candle to keep things neat. What I love about this idea is how versatile it is. The natural wood looks great whether you’re going for a classic farmhouse look or something more relaxed. Don’t forget to add in some pretty blue and white coasters to prevent rings on your table!

Garden-Inspired

Garden-Inspired Outdoor Coffee Table Decor Ideas

A garden-inspired coffee table essentially reflects your outdoor area and perfectly complements it. Add some greenery, delicate floral touches like fresh flowers in a vase, and try to embody the word “fresh”. Start with potted plants full of herbs like lavender, rosemary, or mint. Moss or small succulents are also a great option. To finish it off, add a few candles in glass hurricanes for a soft, glowing ambiance. I love how refreshing and vibrant this decor style is, creating an inviting and relaxed environment.

Coastal Calm

If you like the beach, a coastal-inspired coffee table is a good choice. Look for tables made of driftwood, reclaimed wood, or woven, airy materials like wicker or rattan. Pair it with soft blue or white hue pillows, along with seashells, a beautiful seagrass vase, or vintage glass beads. This look is perfect if you live near the beach or simply want to bring a little piece of the ocean into your home’s outdoor space.

Effortless Modern Style

Effortless Modern Style

If sleek and simple is your style, opt for an outdoor coffee table with a modern, minimalist look. Think clean lines, neutral colors, and minimalist accessories. I love how this approach creates a calm and clean atmosphere. It allows enough space for everything, without overloading your outdoor area. Choose a modern coffee table with a sleek design, preferably in a neutral tone like black, gray, or white. Layer it over an outdoor jute rug for a simple and clean base. Try to keep accessories to a minimum, only adding what you need or what really sparks joy, such as a simple vase or a simple moss centerpiece in a textured pot.

An iron or glass coffee table is the perfect luxurious focal point. Line it with votive candles, glass hurricanes, or terra cotta pots. Add a garden stool or striped pouf for an unexpected pop of color!

Classic New England Style

This style evokes feelings of understated beauty, elegance, and sophistication. It’s stylish yet super laid-back. Start with a natural wood table decorated with elements like blue hydrangeas, woven materials, and blue linens. A woven tray is also a nice touch.

Traditional and Timeless

Traditional elegance is all about charm and sophistication, making a space warm and welcoming yet clean and refined. It’s perfect for those who appreciate classic design with a warm, inviting touch. I love pairing two ottomans as a coffee table to give a seating area some interest. Add elements like throw blankets, a tray, and traditional flower urns.

How To Decorate An Outdoor Coffee Table

How To Decorate An Outdoor Coffee Table

Step 1: Choose the right table.

The first step in decorating your outdoor coffee table is to choose the right one! Consider the size of your outdoor space, the materials that will actually withstand weather, and what style you prefer. A sturdy, weather-resistant table is absolutely essential. Materials like concrete, teak, metal, and wicker are great choices for outdoor tables.

Step 2: Add a simple base layer.

Start by adding a base layer to your coffee table. A neutral-colored tray or woven placemat is a great place to start because you can organize your decor on top of it, making it easier to rearrange when needed. It also keeps smaller items from rolling around everywhere. A tray is great for holding drinks, candles, or other small items, while the placemat can add some texture to the surface.

Step 3: Incorporate some fresh greenery.

Greenery is everything. It can take a space from drab to fab in seconds by breathing life into it. Whether it’s a single plant or a small group of succulents, greenery makes an huge impact on your space. Choose a mix of plant sizes to create balance and depth. Or, if you prefer a more simplistic approach, a single small tree right in the middle can really add to the space without overwhelming it.

Step 4: Personalize it with accessories.

Think about the things that best reflect your personality. Whether it’s a stack of your favorite books, candles, or a small decorative sculpture, accessories are the way to show off your style. Just be sure to keep everything balanced and don’t overcrowd the table.

Step 5: Finish it off with a comfortable seating set.

While a coffee table is a great place to start, your guests will also need somewhere to sit! So, to complete the look, pair your coffee table with a cozy patio set. A warm seating area will help tie the space together, making it feel inviting and complete. It’ll be the perfect place for all of your friends and family to come together and enjoy quality time.

Keep the vibe casual yet enjoyable.

Casually Coastal

There is something special about coastal style; it’s carefree, breezy, and beautiful. A casually coastal tablescape features elements like bamboo dinner plates, woven napkin rings, and shades of blue that set the tone. To elevate your dining experience, consider incorporating natural textures, such as jute placemats or sea-inspired centerpieces, like shells or driftwood. Soft, airy linens can add an extra layer of relaxed elegance, while a touch of greenery brings life and freshness to your setting. Whether you’re hosting a summer barbecue or a cozy family dinner, a coastal theme creates an inviting atmosphere that makes every meal feel like an escape to the beach. Embrace the charm of coastal living and let your table reflect the soothing vibes of the sea.

A Kitchen Island Brunch

Even the most overlooked spaces deserve a lovely table setting. I adore the casual brunch atmosphere created at a kitchen island. Mixing textures, such as woven placemats with linen, adds a playful touch to a simple kitchen island. To elevate the experience even further, consider incorporating seasonal fresh flowers or fruit as a centerpiece. These small details enhance the visual appeal and create an inviting environment where friends and family can gather and enjoy each other’s company. A beautifully set kitchen island can transform an everyday casual meal into a memorable occasion, encouraging you to embrace the artistry of dining, even in the most casual of settings. So let your creativity flow, and turn your kitchen island into a charming spot that reflects your style and warmth. I also love a breakfast nook and think it’s another great place for a casual brunch!

A Patriotic Table

This is a favorite setup for a 4th of July or Memorial Day barbecue. Begin with a blue and white base, such as a navy and white gingham tablecloth, which adds a classic and festive touch. If you have a ginger jar, it makes an excellent vase for hydrangeas, creating a beautiful centerpiece. Simply add mini American flag sticks to the arrangement for a fun patriotic flair. To enhance the atmosphere, consider incorporating additional decor elements like string lights or lanterns for evening gatherings. Serving traditional barbecue dishes alongside refreshing summer drinks will complete the celebration. With these simple touches, your outdoor gathering will be both stylish and spirited, perfect for honoring the holiday!

Fall Harvest Table

Blue looks great with orange, making it the perfect choice for a vibrant yet elegant fall tablescape. To create a captivating blue and white theme, consider incorporating rich blue hues alongside crisp white elements for a refreshing contrast. Add mini pumpkins in shades of orange and white for a touch of seasonal charm, which will serve as delightful focal points. Complete the look by placing tea lights throughout the table; their soft glow will enhance the overall ambiance, making it perfect for cozy gatherings. This combination celebrates the essence of fall and showcases a unique blend of colors that can easily transition throughout the season. Whether for Thanksgiving dinner or a casual autumn gathering, a blue and white tablescape with a touch of fall orange will impress your guests and create a warm, inviting atmosphere.

What Colors Look Good With a Blue And White Table Setting

  • Beige/Cream:

Warm neutrals can soften the blue and white cool tones, creating a more inviting and relaxed atmosphere.

  • Brown:

Brown can add a natural, earthy feel to a blue and white scheme. I love French blue and brown together

  • Yellow:

Yellow adds a bright and cheerful touch to a blue and white combination. Try adding a bowl of lemons for a pop of this happy color

  • Orange

Orange can create a bold and energetic look when paired with blue and white, especially with darker shades of blue.

  • Red

Red complements blue and can create a vibrant contrast, especially when used as an accent color.

  • Green

When paired with blue and white, green, significantly lighter shades like spring green and sage, can create a natural and calming effect.

  • Pink, Peach, and Coral

Soft pastel shades of pink can add femininity and warmth to a blue and white scheme.

Create your own blue and white tablescape

As you plan your next gathering, may this inspire your blue and white tablescape. With thoughtful touches and a palette that evokes tranquility, you can create an inviting atmosphere that brings joy to your guests. Display a Favorite Page

Sometimes, an interior page of a book deserves to be showcased! I love leaving my favorite coffee table book open to a specific page. You can change the page with the seasons, making it a unique and beautiful way to highlight a particular illustration or text. For instance, in the spring, I might display a vibrant floral illustration that complements the blooming flowers outside. In the fall, I’ll opt for pages featuring warm colors and cozy themes, evoking the essence of the season. It’s not just about the visuals; I enjoy the conversations that emerge when guests see an interesting page. It creates an inviting atmosphere, encouraging people to come closer, engage, and share their thoughts. Plus, it gives me a chance to revisit some of my favorite works, reminding me of the stories and artistry that inspired me.

On a Pretty Stand

Many beautiful stands are now designed specifically for coffee table books. I love this lucite stand because it showcases a favorite page beautifully. Its sleek design not only highlights the book but also adds a modern touch to any room. Whether you’re displaying a stunning photography collection or an inspiring travel guide, a well-chosen stand can elevate the entire presentation, inviting guests to stop and explore the stories within. Plus, it offers an elegant way to keep your favorite reads easily accessible while enhancing your home décor.

In Bookshelves

A classic, straightforward way to store and display your books is to arrange them by color or create a vibrant mix by combining different colors throughout. I like to place my books vertically and horizontally, depending on what other items I’m decorating the shelf with. For instance, you can use a coffee table book as a base for a vase or picture frame on your shelves. Start with larger books as the base when stacking books horizontally and gradually build your stack with smaller books on top. Additionally, I enjoy storing books vertically and using lucite bookstands to keep them in place.

On a Coffee Table

This is a classic way to display your coffee table book collection! You can stack as few or as many as you like, creating an inviting centerpiece that sparks conversation. I enjoy changing them out seasonally; in spring, I might opt for vibrant travel books that inspire wanderlust, while in the cozy winter months, I lean towards illustrated stories and art books that evoke warmth and nostalgia.

To elevate the display, I always add fresh flowers in a vase—nothing beats the charm of peonies in the summer or a simple bunch of eucalyptus in fall. Sometimes, I even sprinkle in personal touches with small trinkets or curios that hold special memories, allowing each stack to tell its own story. This way, my coffee table becomes not just a place for books, but a reflection of my personality and a warm invitation for guests to linger a little longer.

On a Nightstand

A small stack of coffee table books can add a charming touch to your nightstand or end table. Placing them next to a lamp not only creates a cozy reading nook but also enhances the overall aesthetic of your space. Additionally, if your nightstand features a bottom shelf, you can use this opportunity to style it with these books, creating visual interest and a layered look. This arrangement not only draws the eye but also provides a convenient spot for those cherished reads, making them easily accessible whenever inspiration strikes.

Spring Wardrobe Essentials

Spring Wardrobe Essentials

Spring Wardrobe Essentials

Spring has always been one of my favorite times for transitioning my wardrobe. There’s something refreshing about the change in weather that prompts a complete refresh of my clothing collection. I eagerly anticipate shedding the heavy layers of winter, knowing that sundress season is just around the corner. The arrival of warmer days means it’s time to swap out our winter coats for lighter trench coats, which effortlessly combine style and functionality. I love the feeling of slipping off my snow boots and trading them in for strappy sandals that let my feet breathe, ballet flats that add a touch of elegance, and cute leather sneakers that are perfect for casual outings. Each piece not only reflects the vibrant spirit of spring but also allows for flexibility as the weather fluctuates.

As I update my wardrobe for the new season, I want to share some of my recent favorite essentials for spring. From floral prints that brighten up any outfit to lightweight jackets that can be easily layered, these items have become staples in my daily attire. I’m excited to embrace the playful colors and textures that spring offers, and I hope to inspire others to refresh their own wardrobes as well!

Spring Outfit Ideas

Effortless Transitions from Winter to Spring

I love the transition from winter to spring. Some people may find it challenging to decide what to wear during this time of year due to the unpredictable weather. However, I prefer to stick with classic pieces in my wardrobe. Many timeless essentials are easy to layer for varying temperatures. For instance, a pair of jeans and a white t-shirt or a white button-down create the perfect base for those uncertain days. When I need an extra layer, I can easily add a mini trench coat or a cardigan. Lately, I’ve been pairing my straight-leg denim with a classic chambray button-down and ballet flats for a simple yet stylish outfit. I am also styling my white jeans with sweaters for early spring and then transitioning to a sleeveless blouse when the weather allows.

Dresses that will take you through Summer

Dresses are another spring (and all time) essential of mine. I love a good dress and have a hard time passing them up when shopping. This white eyelet is on my wishlist, and I know I will wear it through late summer. Whether I’m dressing up with a gorgeous scallop tier dress like this one or dressing down with a casual, striped dress like this polo-styled one or this linen printed sundress, dresses help take off the weight of my winter wardrobe and are a must-have for me in the springtime. And I love the many ways that you can style and layer them. Just like any spring outfit, dresses are so adaptable.

Incorporating Pieces That Are on Trend

I prefer to maintain a classic foundation in my clothing while incorporating a few trendy pieces each season. I appreciate that current trends are less specific, allowing you to choose a few updated items that can add a fun touch to your wardrobe. Also, I suggest selecting pieces that resonate with you and mixing them with your classic wardrobe staples. One of the joys of refreshing your spring wardrobe is choosing items that not only make you feel good but are also stylish. This spring, we are seeing more dresses in sunset shades, stripes, and bubble hems, along with classic midi skirts adorned with bold prints. Consider blending boho, floral, and striped pieces into your classic wardrobe for a fresh look.

Lightweight Jackets and Trench Coats

Although we’ve stored away our winter coats, I find myself reaching for lightweight jackets throughout early summer. I particularly enjoy wearing a cropped trench or a modern twist on a classic denim jacket. A timeless Barbour jacket is also a staple piece that will last for years. As the evenings cool down, these versatile layers provide just the right amount of warmth while still allowing for breathability. They pair perfectly with casual outfits, adding a touch of sophistication without being overly formal.

Athleisure for all the travel sports

For many of us, it’s travel sports season. Most weekends, you can find me on the sidelines cheering for my son at his soccer games, or I spend hours at the track with my fifth grader during his track meets. No matter where we are, I want to be comfortable and prepared for any changes in the weather. This year, I’ve become a big fan of cozy sets, especially those with a wide leg pant. I also enjoy pairing leggings with a sweatshirt for an easy “sports mom” look. Beyond just the clothes, I’ve learned to embrace the community that comes with travel sports. It’s not just about watching our kids compete; it’s about connecting with other parents, sharing stories, and enjoying the camaraderie. This season has not only been about supporting my children but also about celebrating the bonds we create through this experience.

Sneakers, Sandals, and Ballet Flats

Spring is the perfect time to refresh your wardrobe, and what better way to do that than by stepping into the season with a new pair of shoes? Whether you’re looking for comfort, style, or a bit of both, there are so many options to complement your spring outfits. Spring outfits are so versatile and you can pair them with a pair of leather sneakers, pale blue leather sandals, or airy woven flats, which are a big trend this spring. These kitten heels have been a favorite of mine recently as well! With so many choices available, you can curate the perfect shoe lineup that enhances your spring wardrobe while keeping you comfortable and chic. Step into spring with confidence and let your shoes be a reflection of your unique style!

Handbags

As spring approaches, you might be considering an accessory update to refresh your look. Spring and summer bags are all about playful textures and unique shapes that elevate any outfit. This season, we’re noticing an exciting trend of unexpected designs that combine various fabrics with rattan, bringing a refreshing and organic feel to accessories. In addition to texture, bold colors and artistic prints are making a statement. Whether you opt for a quirky bucket bag or a stylish woven tote, these pieces will not only enhance your wardrobe but also add a touch of fun to your spring and summer outings. Embrace the season by experimenting with different materials and styles, and don’t be afraid to mix and match to find the perfect accessory that truly reflects your personality!

Beyond being practical, they also offer a chance to add some personality to your space, creating a nice, cohesive look with your other bedroom furnishings.

Should Bedside Tables Match The Bed?

Yes and no. It’s really not a hard-and-fast rule. Most experts will recommend having a cohesive look, but it’s not totally necessary for your bedside table to be an exact match to your bed frame. Rather than keeping your bedroom furniture matchy-matchy, I prefer to create contrast and dimension.

You can even mix materials, like a rattan bedside table with an upholstered bedframe to add depth and interest to your space. The key is to just make sure the pieces feel balanced, matching or not. It’s a lot like console tables. You want them to look cohesive in your house, but as long as the overall look isn’t “clunky” you can use your creativity!

How To Style A Bedside Table

Minimalist Style

For a clean, clutter-free look, a minimalist approach is nice. Keep the table surface simple with only a beautiful lamp, a coffee table book, and a vase with fresh flowers or a candle. This style is all about functionality and simplicity, making the space feel serene and easy to navigate. Choose a sleek, low-profile, small nightstand, and avoid overcrowding the top of the table.

Eclectic Mix

If you enjoy mixing it up, an eclectic bedside table can add personality and charm to your bedroom. This style works well when paired with a mix of vintage and modern bedside table decor or a blend of different textures like rattan and metal. Add some meaningful decor items like a decorative vase, a framed photo, a bright book, or a quirky lamp. To recreate this look, focus on mixing and matching materials, but keep it complementary so it’s not chaotic.

Coastal Charm

A coastal style bedside table usually incorporates materials like wicker, wood, or rattan in natural, blue, and white shades. To achieve this look, choose a nightstand with a sturdy rattan or wood frame. Add a cheerful lamp with mixed materials, a stack of coffee table books, and a vase of hydrangeas. This is both functional and timeless, perfect for those who love a calm coastal feel.

Cozy And Layered

A cozy and layered bedside table incorporates warm colors, soft textures, and a sense of inviting comfort. To style a bedside table in this way, start with a wooden or upholstered bedside table and layer it with decorative items like a beautiful small planter with a plant, a vase with flowers, or a candle. You can add some personal touches, like a book you’re currently reading or a nice photo of your family in a pretty lacquered frame. This style creates a warm, inviting, and serene place to enjoy your downtime.

Scandinavian Inspired

Scandi never goes out of style. It’s known for its simplicity, light colors, and functional furniture. A Scandinavian-style bedside table usually features clean lines, light wood finishes, and few decorations. To create this look in your bedroom, choose a light wood or white nightstand, and keep accessories minimal. Stick to only a few decorative objects, such as a lamp or a plant on top to maintain a calm, serene bedroom aesthetic.

Spring Home Ideas

Spring Home Ideas

Spring Home Ideas

Spring is such a lovely time, especially after a cozy winter. I enjoy bringing in fresh flowers and lighting lilac– or peony-scented candles to create a light and airy home. This season is all about renewal, making it perfect for brightening up our spaces. This year, I’m drawn to nature-inspired shades of blue and green that seem to be everywhere. I love adding beachy rattan elements to my decor and wearing charming spring dresses with pretty accessories. It’s the little details that make the season feel special.

There’s a nice trend toward traditional home decor lately, reminiscent of the soft aesthetics in Nancy Meyers’ films. This style creates spaces that are welcoming and effortlessly chic, which is perfect for refreshing your home as spring approaches. I favor traditional styles with gentle color palettes and a hint of coastal charm. While I like to keep my home classic to avoid constant changes, I also leave room for growth. Today, I’m excited to share some simple spring home ideas that can breathe new life into your space without feeling overwhelming. With these thoughtful touches, you can enjoy a seasonal refresh while staying true to your timeless style.

How to Decorate your Home for Spring

Keep Your Exteriors Looking Fresh and Welcoming

Your outdoor spaces deserve a little love. Curb appeal sets the tone for your home, making it warm and welcoming. Start by giving your patio or porch a good clean—sweep away those leaves and dirt that have settled in. It’s also a wonderful opportunity to grab a new doormat, spruce up your planters, and bring out any patio furniture you tucked away for the winter. If you’ve been thinking about refreshing your screened door, now is the perfect moment. Add cozy touches, like colorful pillows or soft throws, to your seating areas to make them extra inviting. And don’t forget to hang some string lights or lanterns—they’ll create a lovely ambiance for those magical evening gatherings. Your outdoor haven is waiting!

Revitalize your Interior Spaces

rattan accent decor

Soft shades of blue and green are trending in interior design, aligning beautifully with the spring color palette. In today’s design world, these colors are considered “neutrals,” and I wholeheartedly agree. To add depth to your space, consider incorporating textured rattan. I love using rattan as a lighting fixture, an accent chair, or coffee table. If you aren’t ready to make a significant rattan investment, add more minor touches of rattan details, like a lamp. This wicker accent chair is charming and reasonably priced.

Layer your Lighting

There’s something about a rattan pendant light that effortlessly brings warmth and charm to any room. Imagine it hanging over a cozy breakfast table or gracefully perched in pairs over a kitchen island, providing a soft glow for morning coffee and casual conversations. Complementing this, a sage green mirror captures the fresh essence of a spring garden, making it a timeless piece that brightens any space. In designing your home, layering lamps and overhead lighting is key; it creates a welcoming atmosphere where you can truly unwind. Every room deserves three sources of light to achieve that perfect glow. Wall sconces enhance a room’s ambiance, adding a touch of sophistication and providing additional lighting for a more inviting space. Together, these elements create a harmonious and inviting space that feels just right for everyday moments.

Tackle that DIY Project.

I don’t often engage in DIY projects, but sometimes it’s necessary. I have a screen door that needs to be hung, and occasionally, I enjoy using spray paint to refresh the appearance of items. Recently, I purchased a mirror that is a fantastic dupe of a designer brand I love. I used the spray paint on it and completely transformed its look. Some of my favorite Spring DIY projects include this mirror, painting our stone fireplace, and painting our shutters from black to a pretty coastal blue.

Add touches to your Kitchen and Guest Bath.

There’s something so charming about a space filled with fresh flowers and little potted herbs on the windowsills. It feels inviting, almost like a breath of fresh air. And let’s not forget a lovely bowl of fruit on the counter—it’s such a sweet touch! Kitchens and bathrooms are perfect for seasonal touches, especially since guests often gather there. Consider using fresh, scented hand soaps and swapping hand towels for lighter colors to freshen up the space in spring. These small changes can enhance the welcoming atmosphere of your home.
